Der Bayer is probably using multiple folders to keep his personal cars, and the cars from his various contests separate. It's what I do when I run one of my contests. All of my personal creations go in an archive folder while I take in and analyze entries. When it's all done, I wipe the files out of the respective folders and restore my archives (if I so choose).
He has chosen the naming convention, as is his right as the person who's run the contest. I can see your point as well, especially since some others use a naming convention more similar to what you suggested. I prefer to use the one more similar to his when I run my contests.
It is what it is.
But the naming convention similarity IS still a problem and people who run these competitions need to be aware that multiple competitions with the EXACT same naming convention will force players to choose who they want to support. Der Bayer doesn't need to change his naming convention but, for the health of the challenge community participation and variety, competition hosts would be wise to determine a naming convention that doesn't clash with other competitions.
Since the new build this naming convention problem has become the discussion we need to have as people are getting excluded over technicalities. Nothing wrong with asking for a re-submission over an incorrect name (and excluding someone who doesn't comply with the name change request) but challenge hosts need to be crystal clear over what is allowable and what isn't so that people don't make mistakes in the first place. It's all well and good to declare that "it's the host's right" but a host also has responsibilities; clear rules, clear aims, a thick skin and a soft heart.
I wan't the post-steam challenges to run like the pre-steam challenges. The challenges those days were generally light-hearted and fun with tolerance shown for error and non-compliance was shown the door. Now all the challenge pages are littered with severe consequences for minor infractions and a penchant to ridicule mistakes rather than discretely deal with problems through the PM system. These challenges are meant to be FUN but too many of them feel like a chore...
tl;dr - Please come up with a universal naming convention that differentiates between competitions AND keeps things easy for the host!
