Re: BRC QuER - Hockenheim 1000 km 1976 [OPEN]

Now that I've done a bit of the math in my head... a lap time that is 2s faster is easily worth 5 pitstops if not more, which on the various cars can be worth well in excess of 40kg/h consumption given this race is only going to be 6 hours-ish. I guess it's time to go for more POWAH for me.

Re: BRC QuER - Hockenheim 1000 km 1976 [OPEN]

I didn't have enough time IRL to really tinker with my designs as much as I would have liked. However, Boss Motorsports has entered two cars, Nos. 73 & 93. One will be powered by a N/A Ford 351 CI block that has been changed over to SOHC and MFI. The second it a completely experimental Turbo engine. Both are using the same body and same suspension tune because I didn't have time to tinker with the turbo car, but wanted to run one.

I decided to trade speed for economy because I hit a wall with the 351. We'll see how it goes. I brought some Boss scouts to see what designs do well at the test. We'll be taking plenty of notes :D

Edit: Wrote DOHC instead of SOHC.

KielEire wrote:Thanks, but that isn't my problem. All the bodies for 1976 only let me use 175 mm tires when I max out the width. It leaves my cornering stat at .71 g (93.2 mph) for 250 m, which is frankly rubbish. Is it my game or is it me?

Are you sure you've flared the wheel arches? It's the body morphing thing - you mouse over the edge of the wheel well (it can be a bit finicky finding the exact point) and then pull it away from the body to make the arch wider. If you're building the car for the first time, you do it in the Model/Chassis tab; if it's already built, you do it in the Model/Trim tab (the one where you paint the thing).

If you have the wheel arches pulled out very wide and you have the rim size down to 10" and the wheel size over 600 mm and the game still won't let you make the tyres wider, then you're very, very bugged and I don't understand it.

Oh, oh, I just had an issue with using McPherson struts and the tyre width, try using Double wishbone.

...I thought McPherson Struts gave you more tyre width. :|

I thought the same. Anyway, I'm working on another race car. I'm gonna try to use the same engine, but I want a more aerodynamic body (than the not Grand National body). But I still want an FR. My MR test cars all did kinda poorly.

I had that problem. You should watch Killrob's BRC66 video were he briefly explains how to set up MR.

Do we already know how and when the test run will happen?

also @ TheBobWiley What a lap time with that body! I did not expect that...

The only real problem with MR setup for me is to keep the front tires wide enough for braking purposes and to get a few extra points in cornering. Setting it up is a pain :\

They're supposed to be more compact but ever since the previous build, they definitely seem to occupy a different spot and end up restricting your tyre width even more.

Bob's car probably does very well because all the extra rear weight really helps keep the wheel spin down and the power on the road. That's actually a fantastic idea, and the other stats are very good too.

For now though, I pretty much give up. With the time I have, I just don't seem to be able to make any meaningful progress or know how to produce a car that's going to do well.

I just submitted my second car. An attempt to get a car to go 1000km with only 1 or 2 stops. No regular stops, it only stops for repairs, fuel, or tires. Hard long road life tires and absolute minimal camber should last a long time.

OK, the BRCTool has me confused. This is a 1000km race, right? I see a lot of new options in the tool. What option do I need for THIS race? Sprint? Endurance? R1, R2, R3?

This is 20lap test (today). And I think you can opt the one that suits you the most since I opted sprint for one car and endurance for other both under R1 and Der Bayer didn't say I should change.

Use endurance. As I understand it you only need to set up R1 to set your regular pit stops.
