EDIT: Nevermind, I was being an idiot. Total Emissions should be a penalty instead of a multiplier, though.

total emissions are a penalty, they get subtracted from the score, the 0.5 on it makes it so that way the score isn't always negative which was happening in testing

just clarifiying. NO ELECTRONIC fuel injection right? not downright fuel injection?

cause even if it's mechanical, it's still better than carbs

Yeah, Mechanical fuel injection is better as far as horsepower output, but in my opinion, it's not worth the price gap. I've found a way to use carburetor to get pretty darn good reliability, but in the process, I think I've won the award for lowest specific output. 8 liters of thundering fury, developing... Wait for it....

No idea how it'll go in the calculations but it was fun to design something different from the usual competitions but which still has a purpose I can support! (No way am I designing a Hummer competitor, )

MFI it's expensive and complicated, I used a big old carburetor. And, since I know I wasn't getting anywhere with fuel economy, I designed instead a really torquey engine, with a low specific output as well... but not that low.

Re: Exploration vehicle challenge (now open!)

Just wondering, is the basic 3-way catalytic converter the only one we can use, or is it a choice between that and the high-flow 3-way one?

i remember the vehicle i made as a test of the rules got me like 12 MPG using MFI, so it isn't impossible to get into double digits

I'm getting 11.9 mpg with it right now, and I still need to do some tweaking, so it's entirely possible. Of course having a vehicle that weighs less than 1500 kg makes it easier to go for fuel economy.

4.7km/l is 11.05MPG. it's already in double digits
