Re: PIF Design Challenge [Red Group Thread]

"We've managed to meet your requirements," the project manager announces, drawing the attention of all seated in the board room. "339 horsepower with 466 pounds of torque. Emissions legal in California. Safer than any of our competitors. Damn close to 19 miles per gallon." A hint of what could be taken as a smirk plays on his face; nothing could have prepared the Mayflower bureaucracy for the blasphemy the lead engineer had concocted.

Polite applause filled the room, and the project manager loaded up the next slide of technical data with a malicious glimmer in his eyes.

"...427 cubic inches with twin turbosuperchargers."

The applause stopped abruptly, shoved aside by a horrified chill. The new Mayflower Turbohawk was now as un-American as its German designer; no true-blue muscle car was allowed to have turbosuperchargers. Or for that matter, a five-speed gearbox, and god forbid effective brakes. But nobody could raise so much as a squeak in objection, because the engineering team had delivered literally what they had demanded of them.

A Turbohawk.

Edit: challenge coming soon.

I leaned it out and added just a little more cam and I made 360+ HP N/A but nowhere near ask close to those economy numbers

Re: PIF Design Challenge [Red Group Thread]

The Last Sports Car

It's 2020. The sports car is a distant memory. Fuel crises, war, recession... times are tough once again.

Meanwhile, you have been handed a design brief for your company's next family car. It must meet a wide and stringent set of regulations to be sold in all major markets, and the list is depressing; safety standards, emissions standards, minimum fuel economy... the dreariness goes on and on, and it's beginning to look like you'll be responsible for designing the next award-winning econobox.

A "fitting" task for the former head of the recently dissolved performance and motorsport division. There's no way you'll take this lying down.

Can you get away with building the last sports car?

Regulations require:
- 49 mpg or better to meet US CAFE (4.8L/100km)
- 50 emissions or better, to meet Euro emissions standards
- 50 Safety or better

Management requires:
- 5 seats
- 40 Driveability or better
- 30 Comfort or better
- 20 Prestige or better
- Regular or Premium fuel
- 70 average reliability or better
- $12000 total cost

Your personal goal (optional):
- lap Green Hell in under 9:00
- lap the Airfield Test Track in under 1:35

Re: PIF Design Challenge [Red Group Thread]

Very hard, i barely do it, the 4,8L/100km rule is very strict.
I've made a sport car? No, it's veeeery slow but it fit the rules.

Someone was able to satisfy even the lap times?

Re: PIF Design Challenge [Red Group Thread]

I am preparing the challenge but I have a problem with the track... stay tuned
viewtopic.php?f=36&t=5632&p=68906#p68906

EDIT Problem Solved

Here the Challenge:

Can you do better than killrob?

In this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLtuQl13rEM killrob try to beat a 1987 class C LeMans Prototype (and fail) but you can do better than him?

Here the rules:
- Year: 1987
- Weight: >800kg (1763lb) (should not be a problem)
- Displacement max 3.2L (195ci)
- Averge Reliability >40
- Engine reliability >0
- Max +5 Quality everywhere

He made (with a qualifing version) 3:49.87 on Le Sathre 1987-1991 ( http://www.automationgame.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=5632 ) can you be faster?

Re: PIF Design Challenge [Red Group Thread]

POMOCO's racing division is well-known for taking challenges seriously, and this time they didn't disappoint.
They took a car they used to run at the 1987 24hs of LeMans from their museum and tweaked it a bit, after a few hours it was ready to go.

THE GRAND-TOURER FEVER:

It's 1964, and many car manufacturers already have their own sports car. And you, who doesn't want to stay in the shadows, have decided to build one.
But you want to make something different, a sports car for the gentlemen, a machine to be driven daily, without reliability issues and without having to stop at the gas station near your mansion everytime you step on the road.

RULES:
- Year: 1964
- Body: 2-door 1959 GT only.
- Top speed: >152mph (>245kmh)
- Sports compound tires max.
- Reliability: 35 for engine; 55 overall.
- Fuel economy: >18mpg (<13l/100km)
- Drivability: >25
- Comfort: >22.5
- Prestige: >25
- Safety: >25
- Total cost: <13.000
- Production units: <160

Also, one of your rich friends has been bragging about his 3:35 lap time he set in Monza last week in his Aston Martin DB5, show him that you can make a car that goes quicker than that (the track is called "Monza 1955-1969 10km", you can find it in here: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=6014).

EDIT: I made the rules easier to accomplish, to get things moving.

Re: PIF Design Challenge [Red Group Thread]

quick update
everything is a tick except for drivablity (23.9), sportiness (17.2), comfort (17.8) and prestige (23.4)

they seam like there a bit high for the year unless i had a bigger budget (15-17.5k)

I got 33.1 in comfort and 32.1 in prestige with just $9318. You have to work harder!

EDIT: If you can't get to the numbers, I'll change some of them so it's easier for you.

I edited the rules, so now it should be way easier than before.
