Re: The Highway Patrol Challenge [Waiting for Revisions]

I had as a joke, thought about using this 5 liter instead, but I decided to stick only to engines LHE produces.

Re: The Highway Patrol Challenge [1 pending revision]

I think you're better off with a V8 anyway in this challenge.

Average Performance Stats HPC

With all the entries now confirmed, here are some average performance statistics to think/discuss about.
(Benchmark car was excluded from the calculations)

Most people used the V8 as their preferred engine. Three people used the Inline 6, two used the Inline 4 and only one car used the V6.

Average displacement: 4928.35 cc
Average power: 222.45 Hp
Average displacement/power: 22.49 cc/Hp

Of the cars there were seven cars that had a top speed of lower than 200 km/h and six cars achieved a top speed of more than 220 km/h. The average achieved top speed was 209.65 km/h. Acceleration varied a lot, but there were only five cars that needed 10.0 seconds or longer to get from 0-100 km/h. There were however four cars that managed to get from 0-100 km/h below 8 seconds. The average acceleration was 8.95 from 0-100 km/h. The average weight of the cars was 1360.87 kg, with most cars below 1350kg. The average power to weight ratio was 0.16 Hp/kg. Three cars achieved a higher than 0.20 Hp/kg power to weight ratio.

The average distance required to go to full stop from 100km/h was 42.08 meters. With two cars needing more than 50 meters to go to full stop and nine cars needing less than 40 meters.

Twelve cars used an automatic gearbox and the most preferred differential installed was the Viscous LSD, which was inside eleven cars.

Re: The Highway Patrol Challenge [Average Performance Stats]

I definitely produced a lightweight. A lean underpowered lightweight. Let's hope the expensive seats and suspension and chassis setup pays off!

Re: The Highway Patrol Challenge [Average Performance Stats]

Oh well, it seems that my attempt at an eco, cheap, fuel efficient police car failed. It certainly can't keep up with 220 hp rivals.

How is your drivability? That is most important along with reliability. All out Engine performance is trivial in this challenge.

Re: The Highway Patrol Challenge [Average Performance Stats]

Drivability is high, almost on the 60s, however, I chose to use hydropneumatic suspension, so that has hurt the reliability and I couldn't use aluminium body panels, since my car was light. All in all, my chances really look dim.

Re: The Highway Patrol Challenge [Average Performance Stats]

I wouldn't fret so much Leo. As Krispy said, the out and out straight line performance is immaterial to the challenge, and only an advantage insofar as it improves drivability (which after a certain point, it will do the opposite). In fact your car has almost identical engineering choices and sacrifices as mine, except I expect your drivability to be better, so I wouldn't be surprised if you did very well.

Are there any FWD cars? I was going to enter the competition with one but it was already too late.

Hold on. If you used a V6 as well you're not alone for long, since I used a V6 in the Lerk.

Cars: Now I have 2 Sunfires to take care of. One runs, but it's a manual. Not used to driving those yet.

Re: The Highway Patrol Challenge [Average Performance Stats]

I suppose i'll chime in to say that I too, have used a V6 in my entry.

Considering there are three of us, and supposedly 3 people used "Inline" 6s (Which I find to be somewhat unlikely),
Perhaps Tycondero accidentally switched the two statistics around by accident.
