Isn't that also because the car doesn't need to start from 0 mph/kph when passing the finish after the first lap? In Automation you always start from 0 mph/kph.

Re: BRC - Out of the Steam - 1945 [BUILD]

The Automation Test Track has an extremely short pit straight coming off a tight right-angle turn and going into a narrow chicane - I'm pretty sure a flying start is only worth about six seconds. (The video runs at 3x speed; first lap for the #1 car ended at the 56 second mark; second lap ended at the 1:40 mark; arithmetic.) JasonPoland's results imply that BROBOT cuts laptimes by another 10% or more beyond that.

Re: BRC - Out of the Steam - 1945 [BUILD]

Looking over the video, JasonPoland, your car gained a lot from the flying start, but still less than ten seconds. [Edit: Green flag for your car was 2:20; crossed the starting line for the first lap ~2:22 (note: even the 'standing start' is slightly faster than in-game); crossed the starting line after the first flying lap ~4:19 with a 174.67 lap time; 117-119 seconds of video equals 351-357 seconds in-game; 351-175 = 176 and 357-175 = 182. So a flying start gains you something in the ballpark of one to seven seconds - or, using your fastest lap of 173.66, two to eight seconds.]

Re: BRC - Out of the Steam - 1945 [BUILD]

Due to the running laps you save a lot of time that would otherwise be dedicated to accelerating. If you have a really long 0mph to 60mph time of say 20 seconds you could shave off around 10 to 15 seconds with running laps. Meanwhile if you have a faster 0mph to 60mph time of say 10 seconds you would only save around 5 seconds on a running lap.

So now this style could open up new gearbox ideas less focused on the 0 to 60 acceleration and more focused on a 50 to 75 acceleration to accelerate out of the corners better.

This makes me want to redo my cars gearbox now.

One funny thing, I had to redo my cars engine because I accidentally calculated my HP to Weight ratio as HP/LB and not as HP/KG. I had to derate my engine by around 50HP. Cool thing was it cut 6 seconds off my lap time in game by doing so.

Genjet I did the same thing with my power to weight, I was running 300hp now I'm down to 125 but it only shaved about 2 seconds off at the airfield.

If you want to test your gearbox on a flying lap you could try sector three a brands hatch it is a whole flying lap.

Where is the sector three a brands hatch thing? I searched for it and the only thing that popped up in the search was your post.

Also, by reversing the HP to Weight equation I now know about what your car weighs (around 835kg).

Ooo, very close on my guess of your cars weight.

I ran transmission tests using my car that I entered in the contest.

The different transmissions were inconsequential to lap times. Differences were less then 1 second and for my car that one second was in the wrong direction.

After some quick testing I was only able to make a few thousandths, to bad I was hoping for at least a tenth or two.

Good :P That gives us a chance to catch up LOL I will say though that the field outside the very top and bottom is quite close, I think test 2 will be much closer.

Is there a tutorial on .lua files on the forum somewhere that I am missing? I can't seem to find them.
