Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #4 - 1977 [RESULTS]

Woo, made decent profits with both my cars.

The price analysis screen for my sports car seems a little off. The profit and sales at my price don't match at all with the main results page

Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #4 - 1977 [RESULTS]

Der Bayer, your labeling on factory usage/capacity is off.

Ardent Olympic is listed at 40k capacity, 38400 sales. My actual capacity was 80,000, and my actual sales was 57,777, which you have listed for Cabaret
Ardent Piper SE is listed at 1M capacity, 596k sales. My actual capacity was 320,000, and my actual sales was 311,977, which you have listed for 450 SEL 6.9 AMG.

Now... as for my results...

A little surprised I didn't sell every car, but very pleased with my actual sales. Very close to spot on for factory capacity with the Piper. While it's not a class leader, I'm pleased with how well it sold over the lower end. Went a little overboard on production for the Olympic, but that model wasn't tailored to one specific category (Was going for L$$, L$$$, and GT at the same time), so overall I'm quite happy with how my models sold.

Also... is that a clearance on aisle 7 for the It's A Car? :D

Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #4 - 1977 [RESULTS]

I failed horrendously, neither of my cars got close to the factory limit and one didn't even give profits, it wasn't a huge flop, but it still lost money.

The car designed to give profits wasn't such a big hit either, all fault of XWing who decided to sell a better car for less money and manage to ruin both my cars at the same time :P

Those cards you made are definitely a cool touch. How much work did it take to make those?

Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #4 - 1977 [RESULTS]

Wow, that's a surprise!
When I saw there were 3-4 cars with higher comfort than me at a lower price I thought I was stuffed! Really surprised I actually sold everything. I can only conclude there must not have been enough L$$ cars to supply everyone. Wishing I made my factories a bit bigger now!

Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #4 - 1977 [RESULTS]

Wow, I did amazingly badly.

I think the main problem was that I made waaay too much production. For both my cars I used at best half of my capacity.

O.o Well, Definitely something to learn from.

Some of these cars look amazing, you guys are fantastic designers. In particular HighOctaneLove, JoeySatriani, ConeDodger and DarkJedi. Amazing looking cars.
I however feel the need to slap Reaper392 for the sin of putting a wing on his bonnet. :o

Thank you Der Bayer :D

That was fun! I finally accomplished my goal of making a profit! Next goal: reach the leaderboard (ie top 3) of any category. It took 4 tries to reach the 1st goal, so I'm giving myself to CTC #8 to accomplish the next.

Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #4 - 1977 [RESULTS]

I made it on a top 3 list again, but this time I actually turned a profit.

It's nice to see how my more expensive and lower volume car ended up making me more money than my larger production run and cheaper car.

Again I'm not sure how my $40k, 10sec 0-100 sedan got .15% of Hot Hatch and .51% of Trackday sales, but the bigger question is how the $150k Rolls Royce style car got 3.21% of the Supercar market. Only thing I can think of is the 8.8L, 503hp, 797NM engine with the 6.3sec 0-100 time somehow impressed them.

Yes, that's possible. The price analysis does not take into account when other players sell out. Because so many sold out, there are noticable differences.

GenJeFT wrote:Your factory usage is a bit messed up. The factory for the Legacy could only make about 1,000,000 Legacy cars, not 2,000,000.

Hm, I don't know where I messed it up, at least it was correct in the main calculation. The factory analysis was just a quick shot, maybe I should have taken more time for it. I'll just remove that sheet and search for the solution next time. ;)

Trifler wrote:Those cards you made are definitely a cool touch. How much work did it take to make those?

I have to make the screenshots manually, the rest is done automatically by a script. So it's approx. 1.5-2 hours (without coding time).

That issue will be taken care of next round. In a few days I will show alternative results with the new scoring system. The sportiness of your cars won't be big enough to make sales in those markets then.

Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #4 - 1977 [RESULTS]

That could not go better (well, OK, I could be first in the supercar segment), I'm surprised everthing went as planned. i6 for everyone (who was quick enough to grab one)! :D
The only question remains, how many more could I have sold?

The really interesting thing is I hit the modern SUV market with my car - best selling expensive offroader has poor offroad capability. And best selling hot hatch has almost 0 sportiness, but who cares about reviews, it has RWD and an i6, it HAS to be a good hot hatch!
And it looks like front wings are becoming more widespread, too bad there are currently no wings in automation that look good at the front.

I did warn everyone that the car was another eye sore :P. Find another way of getting as much downforce at the front and I will gladly stop putting barn doors on the front of trackday cars. Extra downforce increases sportiness for next to no money and seems to only cost fuel economy and top speed, so I'm taking any advantage I can get for my otherwise mediocre car designing skills
