Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #5 - 2014 [RESULTS]

So to stop the discussion (which lacked constructive criticism a bit but therefore contained much whining):

Banning bodies is not a solution because it does not solve the problems of the game/my challenge. The game will be adjusted and my challenge has to be tweaked a little bit in order to not favor certain bodies in the current game build.

The main issues are:
  • Offroad is off the 0-100 scale
  • Utility is off the 0-100 scale
  • Utility is a mix of cargo/passenger space, towing, seats, size, ...

The van body seems to be overpowered because it is the only body so far which offers very good utility. Offroad can be extremely good on every body which allows for big wheels. Huge stats are apparently giving more score, so being off the scale hurts. As I said: That's not a problem of the van body but of the game/my challenge.

The issues will be handled in the following way:
  • Offroad is currently rebalanced in closed beta
  • Utility will be split into practicality and real utility for the Steam release

It does not make any sense in my head to make up practicality and utility stats myself before the Steam release. We will probably have one or two CTCs after CTC 6, so too much effort for too little gain.

What can be done after CTC 6 (where all these issues shouldn't be problems anyway)? I can adjust the scale of utility and offroad by multiplying the stat with a factor of ~0.5-0.7. That would make the disadvantages of bodies with bigger wheels and more cargo space (i.e. higher cost, weight, drag, etc.) more prominent and everything should be balanced a little bit better.

I'm not too worried about it, its a game, and its a glitch, those two almost always go hand in hand.

Your competitions provide the Devs with very useful feedback on what is working and what isn't.
And whether or not that body had a particular advantage it was allowed and available to all players.

In the end I still enjoyed the heck out of it, and I am not going to allow a glitch to ruin my fun.
I would hope that said glitch and whining doesn't spoil you on all of the hard work you put into it.

I second this motion... Thanks Der Bayer for even running this comp as it really helps with designing cars that aren't super high powered uber-beasts!!! :D

Everyone don't forget to enter CTC #6!!! :D
