Re: Petoskey Motors: A Chronology of Cars [1940-1959]

A few changes were made to update the Ventnor Sovereign featuring engine improvements as well as a few minor cosmetic changes. The convertible option was dropped. Ventnor also abandoned the rear suicide doors in favor of a more modern layout.

Power was increased from 253hp to 310hp. The engine also ran smoother while noise remained the same. Durability however, took a slight decrease. However the upgraded engine also proved cheaper to manufacture. Another upgrade was the addition of a new three-speed automatic transmission.
The car maintained fairly strong sales even though the body style was starting to be considered dated.

Also up on the market was the new Workman line of utility vans. Three trim packages were available, the base and hauler which featured the latest 261 inline 6.

And the Severe Duty which featured the same 432 used in the new Sovereign. The high torque of the large displacement engine proved useful for heavy duty use.

The workman was a welcome addition to a lineup that was lacking in work/commercial vehicles.

Model B - keep in mind that 145 hp is pretty much in 1940
Ventnor - 409 hp?! That was extremely much even in 60's. Lamborghini Miura in P400SV variant I guess had somewhere near 390 hp. I don't want to know how it would be to drive car from early 40s that has so much power...
1942 HD - not bad truck
Type A Speedster - my favourite car so far, looks pretty futuristic from it's times (as I saw it for first time, I would tell it's from 50s or 60s)
Indian - also pretty cool car
Meteor - as above
GT466 - looks weird to me due to wheelbase, rear and spoiler
Ventnor Sovereign - so far my favourite vehicle, looks extremely great!
Rapier - MUCH GREEN VERY WOW
Meteor Phase II - Nice improvement, and finally power is acceptable in it's times (however my V12 cruiser called Haight Grandeur had somewhere near 270 HP)

Anyway, I would not use SOHC engines (I use pushrods, and my first company's car with DOHC is from 1970) in that times, I would turn more into carburettors.
Good start bro!

Gameplay is one thing, creating a role-playing car company storyline is something else. In real life there have been all kinds of cars from all kinds of years...
Bugatti had multivalve OHC heads in 1926. Duesenberg had 320 hp and even more in 1932. And so on. I get your points but I think it's question of whether you're trying to do a good
automation design or create your imaginary car appropriate that is still period appropriate :)

As long as those 400hp are able to be put down to the ground - I don't see a problem with it.

Re: Petoskey Motors: A Chronology of Cars [1940-1959]

To further expand the working vehicle lineup Petoskey Motors introduced the Brute Pickup truck.
Brute - Pickup-3.png

Three versions were available, the base pickup featuring the 261(shown), a SUV model which used a 301, and the HD which utilized a new version of the 432 geared more for heavy duty applications. These trucks proved extremely capable off road and the 432 gave the HD excellent towing ability.

Rival company Scapelli entered a new model into the competition with the intent of beating the Meteor, the GT 530

A successor to the GT 466, the GT 530 featured a new larger V12 "Borgia" engine.

Performance figures were impressive but a significantly higher price than the Meteor made this car extremely exclusive.

Unfortunately those 400 hp had a lot of trouble getting to the ground, that's why driveability of the car was at 0.

Re: Petoskey Motors: A Chronology of Cars [1940-1959]

Not prepared to accept defeat at the hands of rival manufacturer Scapelli, a new Meteor was developed and released in 1962.

Meteor - Phase III-9.png

The new Phase III Meteor featured a new variant of the 432 labeled the SHO (Super High Output) With 392 horsepower on tap driven through a four-speed manual, this new car blew the GT 530 out of the water.
432 Dual Quad - SHO-4cc42099-c258-11e5-bf59-78e3b5b1e36b-20.png

The Meteor was Petoskey's first car to feature 4 wheel disc brakes. A higher end interior made for a comfortable grand tourer. Variants included a convertible, and the ZF-1 which stripped out most luxury features in order to shed weight.

More vehicles coming soon.

Top Speed: 45.9 mph
0-60: didn't happen
Quarter Mile: 37.95s @ 36 mph
At least it was fairly decent on gas. 24.8 mpg.

Barely any better than the 20hp(!!!) Ford Model T, which did nearly 22mpg in 1910.

In 1964 the Ventnor Priam made its debut.

This new model used the same engine as the Sovereign but power was increased to 327 hp. The engine was also modernized improving quality and maximum RPM. Enthusiasm for the new Priam was at an all time high and sales were excellent. Customers who wear purple suits seemed to really hit it off with this design.
(My luxury cars seem to do very well, but not in the luxury categories.)

Re: Petoskey Motors: A Chronology of Cars [1940-1960s]

The following year saw a massive surge in new products by Petoskey Motors. The Ventnor Statesman was released one year after the Priam.

Ventnor - Statesman-4.png
Ventnor - Statesman-4.png (528.38 KiB) Viewed 5539 times

Similar in appearance the Statesman seemed to be little more than a two door version of the Priam, but it featured a radical design departure...
Ventnor - Statesman-5.png
Ventnor - Statesman-5.png (508.07 KiB) Viewed 5539 times

It was front wheel drive! The new layout proved too cramped for the 432 to be used so a smaller engine was developed. The 402.
Not only does Ventnor serve as a luxury brand, but also as a proving ground of sorts for new technology that will eventually make its way down to the regular Petoskey lineup. Like its bigger brother, the Statesman sold well.

1965 also saw improvements to the Meteor with the release of the 432 Stinger.

Power was increased from 392 to 419 hp. Petoskey also released a new car to bring it into the muscle car age, the Montauk!
Montauk - RTX-10.png

The Montauk featured the base model equipped with a 203 CID Inline 6, the LE with a new 301 Triforce V8, and the flagship RTX which featured the same 432 engine used by the Meteor.
As mentioned in the line above Petoskey replaced the 301 with a new "Triforce" engine featuring 3 valves per cylinder.

The design also abandons the aluminum heads from the previous model.

Rounding out 1965 is a replacement for the Cortino, the new Rebel:

Featuring various trim models, the Rebel was a small, versatile vehicle. Engines were a 261 for the base models, a 301 "Triforce" for the sport model, and in 1966, the 432 in the RTX model.

Re: Petoskey Motors: A Chronology of Cars [1940-1960s]

Teams from Ventnor and rival manufacturer Kessler planned on working together on a new supercar, while Kessler would focus on the chassis, Ventnor would focus on the powertrain. At the last minute, Kessler backed out of the agreement. Furious over this, the engineers at Ventnor set to work on a new design that would put Kessler in its place. They already had the engine, a performance tuned version of their new 402.

In short order they had their car to put it in, the Bambino:

Not only was this car formidable, it sold well and was reasonably priced to boot.

To round out the year Petoskey released a second version of the Montauk, this one was a dedicated police interceptor.

Using the standard 301 Triforce with a few performance upgrades, the Montauk provided a reliable, practical, and aggressive-looking option for the Police.
