It's not very truck. For me it's oversized Land Rover Defender.

However, very nice designs! Automation is missing a bit off-road cars.

The model was called mini-truck and the back cover comes off, its the closest we have to a truck before the big update.

In 1986 PMC decided that it was to launch a mini-truck off road recreational vehicle, capable of being a daily commuter and weekend trail king. The Gladius is a short wheel base 4 wheel drive light duty off roader which seats 4 comfortably. With a 1.7l OHC I4 producing 63hp when paired with a 5 speed manual transmission is capable of 32 mpg US and 0-100 in 11 seconds. The Gladius wasn't fast, but it could scale obstacles designed for much more powerful and expensive off-roaders. Featuring rear coils and front McPherson strust the 1600lb all steel mini-truck was designed to climb sand dunes and blaze trails.

It retailed for 4,500.00 brand new. A 'Weekend Warrior' package was available which included a trailer hitch, a light duty wing and protective metal light guards was available for an additional $350.00

The cars exterior was plain, rugged and square edged. Front tow hooks protrude the front bumper to allow for easy winch use if stuck.

In 1990 the hp rating was bumped up to 69hp.

2007 Prato Gladius (Gen 3)

In 2007 the Gladius received another overhaul; the same engine used in pervious versions received a slight up tune to 126hp, the drive train from the previous generation was also maintained. Suspension remained unchanged as well. The exterior saw slight revision with plastic accents, redesigned headlights and tail lights and sun visor was added. The interior saw a slight update with newer electronics and improved sound insulation. Softer compound tires and larger single pot brakes were also used to improve ride quality and handling.

The 1900lb compact AWD manages 0-100 in 6.5 seconds and achieves 44.5 MPG US.

The updated 07 Gladius retains all of the previous traits of the Gladius line, however it is slightly more refined and comfortable then its predecessors.

AWD, the right gearing and medium compound tires with a sub 2000lb car makes it very do-able.

Re: Prato Motor Company [Now featuring a mini-truck! 15/01/2

In 2012 PMC decided it wanted to officially enter the Baja race in the Baja 1000.

The PMC performance team and Prato himself went to the drawing board and designed an off road racing monster. The Gladius frame was an obvious choice however much needed to be changed. The frame was constructed of strong ASHS steel and the body made of hyper light weight polymer. This allowed for a light weight and stiff ride. The rear box was removed, limiting the car to only 2 seats, further reducing weight. The bed was extended to improve the front/rear weight distribution. The suspension was reinforced for the jumps, rocks, dips and ruts it would no doubt be bounding over at great speeds. Large dual exhausts protrude out the rear of box, by running the exhaust through the bed they allowed for more ground clearance.

The engine was built from the ground up to rev hard, fast and produce big power. A magnesium block and aluminium heads were used to save weight, the block was speced out to 7.2 litres. Direct overhead cams were used with variable valve timing allowed fora very high revving v8. The internals were of high quality forged parts and built to last the 1000 miles of hard thrashing it was destined to meet. MPFi was the obvious choice to fuel the monster v8. The compression was set to a lofty 10.6:1. The engine weighted in at a beastly 425lbs. It produced 474hp @6300rpm and 494ft.lbs @3600, with the rev limiter set to 7000rpm.

A heavy duty, reinforced 6 speed, all-wheel-drive drive train was used, with sporty gear ratios. When paired with the 474hp v8 the 2500lb truck blasts 0-100 in 3.0 seconds, yeilds a top speed of nearly 290kmph and still manages 28 miles per gallon US. Beefy 2 pot front and single pot rear brakes were used to bring the monster to a stop. 24" tall, 10.5" wide high end off road tires were paired with 15" rims to allow the truck to climb, crawl and blast through the dunes.

The exterior features very powerful off-road light racks, with 4 HID's in the front and 2 large pot lights in the rear to allow for low light baja blasting. The rear of the truck features a stylish wing which generates the much needed down force required to keep the truck on the ground.

2015 Prato-Evgenis Excel EU

By 2015 PMC saw the Excel had great potential on the international scale and immediately set to development of a model for export, in particular for the European market. Contract Evgenis, PMC and Evgenis collaborated and developed a much more EU friendly variant of the Excel. The hyper aggressive front and rear bumpers were removed, catering to European taste. Two different engine's designed to run on higher octane fuel were developed for the Excel, a 1.6l Turbo I4 designed by Evgenis was used to power the mid sized family vehicle. The manufacture cost was reduced and fuel mileage was actually increased at negligible loss of power. 0-100 was accomplished in 7.4 seconds and the car managed 48.5 mpg US.

1981 Prato Decimo

In the 1980's there were two things going on, absurd amounts of cocaine use and disco's. Once you get past those fuzzy memmories some of you may remember the other defining moments of the 80's, European super cars and lackluster american muscle almost made some headlines.

What do you get when you pair a 259hp 6.4l a fiberglass 4 door body, aggressive (1980's) styling, an upscale interior and a selling price of $7000.00? A mistake, mostly, however it has become a very collectible mistake as this mistake was only produced 8,000 times. PMC was playing around with sedans for the first time and decided they wanted to build something that could outrun a fox body, fit a family of five and look good doing it. The 1981 PMC Decimo was a creature to behold. It had the makings of a muscle car, however boasted 4 doors and an upscale interior.

1981 Prato Decimo - Rev0.jpg

The 6.4l flatpane Direct Overhead Cam v8 was a beauty to behold, with the rev limiter set to 6000rpm, 259hp and 329 ft.lbs of torque it begged to see a tune up at your local speed shop. With a 4 barrel carb, bigger exhaust, forged internals and a more aggressive cam excess of 400hp was easily achievable. The engine had great potential however 1980's emission standards and a 2 barrel carb robbed the engine of several dozen ponies.

1981 Prato Decimo-4.png

The interior featured suede and high end wood accents, with more ash trays then you would know what to do with. The front seats hearkened back to the days of old buckets that many a classic muscle car had and the back bench was a luxury for ones bottom to behold. An 8 track player, 6 speaker entertainment system was the sole source of entertainment aside from a digital clock, 3 cigarette lighters, a speedo and am/fm radio. As for drivers assists this thing came fully loaded with traction control, ABS and power steering. Not only was it moderately fast, but it was easy to drive.

Big 2 pot front brakes and single pot rears helped bring the beast to a stop. Medium compound tires allowed for a balance of performance and drive ability. 0-100 was accomplished in 6.1 seconds and boasted a top speed of 220kmph.
