Re: The official AMW thread

That Brimstone 4 is pretty quick! (And better suited to the touge, I bet it'd be much less scary to drive. If you remember Dragawn's thread about downhill in a cheap sports car, you can see what kind of times we were getting there, though I strongly suspect that since it was in an earlier build we'd struggle to hit the same times with the same budget).

You wanna know something crazy? The FF "Peapod", still in FF but nerfed to 1hp:kg, gets down the mountain in 4:38 (though with driving aids, surely your car would be that much faster with them)!

Re: The official AMW thread

Weight is key on a track like Haruna, but sincerely... a 300hp hatch that's almost as quick down the mountain as the mighty 2000hp Mephisto? That's crazy.

Re: The official AMW thread

For 'research purposes' I was watching a bunch of head to head touge races on various passes. For real, a 195hp MR2 easily beat a 320hp turbo S15! Not to mention just how badly a lightly tuned AE86 destroyed the 350hp BNR32, wasn't even in sight at the finish line... and considering just how dominante the BNR32 was when it entered touring car racing, that's saying something about what kind of car suits the touge!

In that sense, I'm surprised that a mega-GTR like the Mephisto actually goes so fast on Haruna, but that of course is with all the aids on. Turn them off and I think the time would increase considerably... or in real life, probably go straight through the barriers doing 250 and explode into a ball of flames at the bottom of the mountain

Re: The official AMW thread

You're right, control is everything on the touge, power is secondary. And on that note, amazing work on the Mephisto, it sure as hell is not an easy task to make a 2000hp car driveable like that!
What amazed me too was when i tested the Mantis HP which is by no means tuned for the fastest track times (it has no wings, and only 1 front lip and 1 back lip, mainly for aesthetic reasons; it doesn't make much downforce and it gets the same equipment as every other Mantis, including advanced safety features) did a time of 4:54.60, only 3 seconds behind the full-on 3.2L AWD Brimstone. Looks like i clearly had no idea what kind of car would be best here, as i expected the Mantis HP to finish in like 5:15 or so. Oh, hell no.
The Brimstone 4 is the 3rd fastest car i've ever tested on Haruna, beating an AWD version of the Anaconda R with the Brimstone AWD's 3.2L engine. Only the NA Anacondas (the standard with the 4.8L, 780hp as well as the R with the 6.0L 978hp V8 engines) are faster, the R completes the course in 4:32.87.

Re: The official AMW thread

Forget everything i've said about the Brimstone 4. With a 2.5L NA V8 it's quite a bit faster still, check the previous page :)

Re: The official AMW thread

Now that's a proper driver's racing car! Though it's an odd market, the pricing of a supercar, but in a way its performance is more like, say, the old B group rally cars like the RS200. Actually that's a really good market to appeal to, though I wonder how much of this you can achieve with lower production hours.

What was the formula you used to calculate MSRP?

Re: The official AMW thread

i don't use any sort of formula for calculating my prices. I check what cars each particular model competes with, then see how my car stacks up, then take a first guess at what price it might be and check if that's realistic with the given costs. If not, the price is increased or decreased until i think it's appropriate.

Re: The official AMW thread

Now's the time for a car that unites oldschool concepts with new-school technologies.

Engine

OLD: huge V8

Body:

OLD: Shape
NEW: materials (carbon fibre)

Gearbox:

OLD: 4 speeds
NEW: double-clutch

Introducing the AMW Godzilla. Since pictures say more than words, i'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Re: The official AMW thread

On 245/40R20s in unchanged spec, it does it in 8.79. If I run anything wider it starts clipping on the frame and I just couldn't stand it, so I made do with those.

Use maximum width wheels, however, and change the gearing, and it'll drop into the 8.50s pretty easily.

Re: The official AMW thread

So apparently the difference isn't too big, and i'm surprised about that. I thought that The Hulk's monstrous power would make it a good bit faster since 1000hp more is quite a significant difference. But then, the extra power is meaningless if you can't put it down...

Re: The official AMW thread

Yeah exactly. The extra power is honestly superfluous anywhere under 350-400km/h. Also the extra massiveness of the engine and drivetrain to cope with the excess torque added a good few hundred kilos, which makes it a fair bit slower off the line.

I actually played around with the tune in Beam.NG, having imported it and tweaked it to make it work. Needless to say it's almost impossible to actually drive LOL. Even a hint too much throttle in any gear and once you hit the power band the tyres just let go. Also I may have to strengthen the mountings of the wheels... accidentally touch the brakes at the same time as the gas and the wheels fly off the car...

Re: The official AMW thread

It's time to announce the new AdVance. It's a luxurious family van, it has a 4.0L NA V8 that gets it from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds (nowhere near its predecessor but it's transverse AWD now because we can't put an engine into this bodyshell when using longitudinal AWD) and it looks like this:

Image Image

Inside, you get luxury interior with 80 sound insulation and +3 quality, luxury entertainment with all driver aids except launch control (again +3 quality) and AdVanced safety (+3 quality). You also get a user-friendly 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The stats are as follows: 6.7s from 0-100km/h, 1:33.75 around the Airfield track (about the same as a Mk. V Golf GTI), great tameness, good comfort, safety and prestige thanks to the 4.0L V8 and the 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The price for this car is 65.000€, less than its predecessor but then it gets less of an engine. Overall i think this is an adequate price because other cars with similar performance, comfort, equipment and practicality are way more expensive.

Re: The official AMW thread

This time i'd like to show you guys an updated car, it's the new Royal. As before, most other people in traffic will only see this perspective, no matter which of the two engines you choose:
Image

And yes, you read correctly. There's two engines, both of which are built from the same block which is now a 10.0L twin-turbo V8. There's the "regular" version:
Image
Image

And, for the first time ever, there's a "Diesel" version (note, i didn't mod the game. there's still no Diesels available. I just significantly retuned the engine to achieve better fuel consumption, lower revs, and higher torque):
Image
Image

These are the safest cars on the market. If you drive straight into a big brick wall, it'll hurt the brick wall significantly more than it'll hurt you. It's pretty fast, too, as you can see in the screenshots above. Also, they're not cheap. At 575.000€ each, they're more expensive than any Bentley or Rolls currently on sale. But then, the Royal (no matter which one) is faster, extremely reliable (engine reliability for the "Diesel" is 95.1) and incredibly safe.

Tom
