Okay, as a semi-serious point, I suggest that if you break the sound barrier by .lua editing, there should be a "sonic boom" noise.

Re: Bask in the glory of my apocalyptic magnificence.

Hm, haven't yet figured out the relevant parts in the lua file but if you upped the bottom end parts quality to 9999 then you might be able to engineer something that puts out to 12k rpm... The next problem being that the top speed is hard limited by the final drive which allows 907km/h Max (see nardo thread, somebody has done this already). Does anyone know how to hack the aero? :P would love to put some F1 style aero back on my cars and take the corners at 5g :P

Are you referring to altering the drag coefficient?

There's a handy little tip about that in the latest automation dev video about setting up aero and what not. I have already had a little tamper (as I believe the Jag XF body is set up wrong). I am not sure exactly when in the video it is done, but if you watch the second half of the video you should get it. If you are still confused as to how it works I can show you how easy it is. :P

Wait, you people are modding the game to achieve these speeds? That would explain a lot.

The Moon probably isn't the best place to set a speed record. Too much dust and not enough air.

Re: Bask in the glory of my apocalyptic magnificence.

Argh, I thought it was pretty clear...

The 652km/h speed I listed is a "theoretical" top speed with a car that was tuned entirely within the game and not had any external modifications to its. Lua file directly. Of course, the engine has an mbtf of 0 because the rpm limit is deliberately set too high to allow certain gearing to be possible, and there is no ventilarion whatsoever. It's just an academic number which can change with various approaches.

Somebody else nodded their file to produce a car that hits the hard limit of final drive, you can see that run and the user there clearly stating it was "super hacky" :P I haven't posted any hacked files here yet.

Oh, it just occurred to me that your cars engine can't break on the track, so it doesn't matter what the max RPM is.

Re: Bask in the glory of my apocalyptic magnificence.

Yeah coz technically, you can set the redline to way too high and all that means is that if you rev the engine too high it'll break. So on the track the simulation doesn't actually over-rev the engine (because there's no power data, so how can it), all it does is allow the top speed to go higher despite final drive limitations.

In real world conditions however, for production cars, that's clearly not a good idea as unless you know what your car's redline is, if you do give it the boot chances are you'll be picking up pieces of block from all over the road...

Like this example here.

The redline for the TSC is 8600, which is the litteral max it can hold before it blows. I can assure you, there is no modding.

Re: Bask in the glory of my apocalyptic magnificence.

Note: with a post-ventilation reliability of 0.1, I can get speeds of 580km/h. It's only by sealing off all the vents that speeds of 600+ seems possible. I'll also add that with some rebalancing, I've managed to push things to... well, quite a lot faster again.

I did notice that! But by the time I saw that video we'd blown past it. I have a build running 672km/h at the moment... Though I don't think whybeare was looking to break any records so much as be ridiculous :P
