2012 FPV Barra 310t F6

ford in America is screwing around with the new ecoboost tech that is making large V6 engines with twin turbo around 200kw.... Meanwhile, in Australia ford have been messing around with their inline 6 single turbo engine and have cracked the 300kw range. FPV tweaked the Barra 270t, in reality, only has larger injectors, and a different dyno tune, that pushes the 270 t all the way to 310kw, here is my attempt at it.

The V6 ecoboost is 265-272 kw actually, though the original concept for the engine was almost 310. I do wish American cars still had inline 6's

Re: 2012 FPV Barra 310t F6

the barra is one heck of an engine and I wish Ford would sell it everywhere BUT:

the Barra is a 4.0 L engine. the ecoboost is 3.5.

turbo count is not the most important thing, the ecoboost has 2 banks of cylinders it would be LESS efficient and space consuming to have 1 turbo.

the ecoboost can be mass-produced and fits ford's portfolio of cars well.

try mounting the Barra in a FWD Taurus and tell me how that works out, or in an AWD Haldex based chassis example the Ford Flex. the Barra would snap the FWD based Haldex AWD in two with it's monster torque, that is you can even fit the damn thing sideways for FWD.

to use the Barra Ford would need to engineer a global platform that is RWD and 4WD to make the barra work plus they need to make it work for people who drive on the right (hand drive) side of the road , and people who drive on the wrong side of the road.

Yeah, that's true, but, Ford Australia have released a concept model FH falcon that will be released next year, the platform for it IS actually a Ford Taurus, just badged as a falcon, and uses falcon tech, meaning that the XR6 and F6 models will have a Barra motor, but I think they will be a RWD like all other Aussie cars (to keep all the bogans happy, an ability to do burnouts)
