While i'm always an advocate of towers over laptops, this is one (albeit rare) situation that it would be good to have/take one.

Well that's perfect. Take it to the race. Do your duty as a tester. Then at the end of the weekend when the laptop is ruined, throw it out and build yourself a tower. Or start using your tower if you already have one. Either way it's a win-win.
