Steam & Launcher Poll + Discussion

Moderator: zeussy

What do you think about completely converting to Steam, getting rid of the stand-alone launcher?

That’s fine, I would prefer Steam anyway.

That’s inconvenient, but okay when it helps development.

That’s not an option for me; I want/need a stand-alone launcher.

You cut out one step, namely client. It's pointless discussion though, difference isn't really big and the whole issue is well, non issue.

I already use Steam for other games. I would prefer that you convert all game keys to Steam keys.

Re: Steam & Launcher Poll + Discussion

I've been playing this game since last year. It's incredibly accurate. I built the LL0 engine of Saturn's 93 dohc and was off on my hp and torque off by about 2 hp and ftlbs

On that note, while the game it's great as is, it's super obnoxious to try to locate the launcher exe on my hdd, when I comparatively have 105 games on steam that take two clicks of a button to find and use. So while I feel bad for the people claiming steam is not an option, I would arguably say that steam is the best option. I have no doubt that there are thousands of people who would buy this game on steam and haven't yet because the game isn't offered there, two of my own friends included. Plus, the benefit of having extra development time for the game, assuming it is easier to update via steam, is fantastic.

I'm really having a tough time figuring out why steam is not an option for people. Is it because of the inability to download it in a certain region? If you are able to run automation, you should also be capable of running steam from a hardware standpoint.

Steam.
Don't waste your resources on feature which will be rarely used (remember your formula).

P.S. The only question is, how will you handle beta accounts?

Option 2: Convert ALL keys to Steam and focus on that platform.

I think steam has the option to flag users as beta testers. When you look at steamcharts.com you can see that before games release they already have players playing them, I can only assume these are testers.

Go full steam version, most pc gamers use steam anyway. Concentrate on the game development.

Re: Steam & Launcher Poll + Discussion

I prefer for option 1, because sometimes I play Automation when I don't have internet access. Maybe I'm wrong and are steam based game playable in a offline mode?

Re: Steam & Launcher Poll + Discussion

I'm not a fan of Steam at all. I already have Ubisoft's Uplay for anno2070 and I hate it. I had Anno1701 and Anno1502 on Direct2Drive, which got bought out by GameFly. I can no longer play the game because the game wasn't transferred and it cannot be activated through the servers. (yes, it could happen with any game regardless of being on multi-game platforms or not) I would like a stand-alone version to play. I also play this game on Linux sometimes. This would not be possible with a Steam client requirement. I do understand, the devs should move forward with the option which serves their needs best, however. Just my two-cents.
