My dad has a '96 Miata that he's owned since brand new. When my parents went on vacation, it was my job to drive it around to make sure the gas didn't get stale in it. It's a fun car to drive, at least occasionally. But banging my knee on the steering column on EVERY. GEAR. SHIFT. got old, real fast.

Is it really that small? I'm thinking of getting a used ND a few years down the road, and I should hope it has more interior space.

Take the seat rails off and bolt it right to the floor and you should be fine.

I'm not planning to buy a Miata anytime soon, but would the remove-the-rails trick work for someone who is 6'4?

Re: Should I or should I not...

If a car fell on it I wonder when kind of suspension/frame damage occurred to the thing, it could be totally fine. A decent sized tree fell on a buddy o' mines Dodge Ram and the tree bounced off and did no damage, mind you it had a heavy duty off road suspensions system.

For the tall people. http://www.miata.net/garage/foamectomy/

Regarding suspension damage. Miata/MX5 suspension is reasonably strong, and if you need new A-arms or something they're pretty cheap.

My Dad's first gen was. I'm 6.0". It was worse after he put in the roll bar, which took another 2" of leg room. My mother in law's 2nd gen was actually drivable.

But my Dad's, other than the roll bar, a head unit, and in-headrest speakers, is absolutely bone dead stock
