Re: What is your car history?

So, my father handed me down a 86 Toyota Celica, Was a rolling shell so i had to do some work, the wreckers by my house had a perfectly working 3SGE (non turbo) motor with "155,000ks" *Cough,Bullsh*t,Cough* so got to work on that, unfortunately it was automatic.... stupid 4 speed sludge boxes lol. i still own this car and it runs great, just did a full rebuild with forged pistons and eagle rods, Bored and sleeved cylinders and chased down a 245 degree camset. will eventually turbo it.

Next i have gotten myself into lawnmowers.. you know.. the 245hp K20 Civics? earlier on last year i swapped a k20 into my 96 Ek Civic i picked up for $2500 (AUD) had local race shop rebuild and blueprint the k20 ready for boost. its now running a Precision 6262 Turbo on 35psi making 650ish to the fly (570ish to the wheels)

But the civic is so god dam hard to drive on the road.. just barely streetable. so im driving my dads 2014 Ford Territory TDI which after 10,000ks has leaking downpipe and suffers major boost cut.. #Icanttouchit.. #companycar..

im really inspired to do something unique. but having trouble coming up with good ideas.. 1UZFE twinturbo celica? The engine bay is pretty big..

Thoughts?

Bought in 2010: 1987 Nissan Sunny 1.6L (rust and expensive engine problems, scrapped)
Bought in 2012: 1988 Nissan Sunny 1.4L (a snow plow reversed without noticing it, wrecked)
Bought in 2012: 1992 Ford Escort 1.8L (rusted like heck, decided to sell. Loved the engine in this. My first fuel injected car and my first car with over 100 horsepower, I was so happy! :D )
Bought in 2012: 1997 VolksWagen Vento 1.8L (all kinds of small problems all the time, impossible to open doors in winter, or if you somehow got a door open it wouldn't close, decided to sell)
Bought in 2014: 2001 Opel Astra Sport 2.2L (fun but ugly, we'll see how long this lasts. It's slowly losing oil somewhere.)

Today I bought a 1995 Volvo 850 T5 Estate, 2 liter turbo I5. It's got a bigger turbo installed so it's around 230 hp instead of the stock 211 hp. Nice find for 500 euros, it's in superb condition except for the windshield and some joint in the drive shaft which I'm gonna get replaced tomorrow.

Tell me about it. My car mechanic cousin (whose friend's car it was) was amazed. Of course fixing it takes another 300 or so and it needs new winter tyres as well but still, once it's fixed it's the same condition as a 2000 eur car. We'll see if it offers any unpleasant surprises in the future. The previous owner seemed to immediately regret selling it at all. The windshield was busted by the owner's ex girlfriend when they broke up :D

I would love for my first car to be a diesel Volvo 850. The insurance must be dirt cheap on them things.

Re: What is your car history?

All 'dailys'... the first four were standards, the rest have all been automatics.

1977 Toyota Corolla 1.2 (purchased 4 yrs old, kept 4 yrs) - tiny but indestructible engine; could lift this in and out of tight parking spots with a friend; gave it to my brother free, it rusted out eventually.
1983 Honda Prelude (purchased 2 yrs old, kept 3 yrs) - drove it like I stole it, handled like a charm
1988 Ford Mustang 2.3 (leased new for 2 yrs) - meh... basic low-tech low-cost transportation
1991 Honda Prelude (purchased new, kept 9 yrs) - real fun to drive, I took it places it was not meant to go though.
198? Chevy Celebrity (inherited by wife, kept a few years) - the taxi, we called it.
1997 Honda Civic 4dr (purchased new for wife, kept 15 yrs) - cheapest car to operate/maintain we've had
2000 Nissan Maxima (purchased new, kept 14 yrs) - NOT cheapest car to operate/maintain we've had
2012 VW Golf Wagon 2.5 - a.k.a. 'Jetta Sportwagon' in US (purchased new for wife, will probably keep it a long time)
2015 Mazda 6 (purchased new in 2014) - lovin' it so far.

Cars: 1971 Valiant Charger 770

Re: What is your car history?

1991 Mazda 121 (1.3L I4). BEST first car ever, the only reason I've stopped driving it is cause after ~50km of driving the engine blows all the coolant out of the radiator. I think it's just the head gasket but I haven't been arsed to look at it yet. 380000km

then bought

1971 Chrysler VH Valiant Charger 770 (265cu-in I6). I'll tell you what, going from the 50 horse power of the Mazda to the 300hp of this thing is a HELL OF A jump. I drove it during my provisional license as well which was always fun and because we have very weird laws here saying that learner's/provisional drivers can't drive anything with more than 6 cylinders or with a turbo/super charger and beast is neither of those things but still held the title of fastest accelerating car in Australia for decades.

Seems like nothing compared to a lot being posted here but I still love both of them.
