Re: What is your car history?

1989 Plymouth voyager (it was a free car from my parents)
1992 Pontiac grand am (3.3L v6 with the sport package, that was a fun car untill i got hit)
1990 Ford escort (it was $900 and was good till i got hit)
1991 Geo metro (5 door version, i hated that thing but it was better on gas than everything else & it did 90mph)
2003 Doge grand caravan sport (yes a "sport" minivan... free from my parents, loads of room and not too bad untill the engine blew for no good reason)
2005 Ford focus zx4 (current car and i like it because its a sedan not the hatchback or wagon versions that are ugly as FK)

Well.... might as well add my Legacy to the list of wrecked rides... Got nailed last week when a semi jack knifed and I was pinned between the trailer and a concrete barrier.

Got a new 2015 one now, night and day to my old one... when did Subie finally learn how to design a better interior? As for the exterior... kinda looks like a Ford Taurus a bit.

Re: What is your car history?

Bought in 2006: 1989 Ford Escort Laser 1.6L (rusted like heck, decided to sell)
Bought in 2010: 1987 Nissan Sunny 1.6L (rust and expensive engine problems, scrapped)
Bought in 2012: 1988 Nissan Sunny 1.4L (a snow plow reversed without noticing it, wrecked)
Bought in 2012: 1992 Ford Escort 1.8L (rusted like heck, decided to sell. Loved the engine in this. My first fuel injected car and my first car with over 100 horsepower, I was so happy! :D )
Bought in 2012: 1997 VolksWagen Vento 1.8L (all kinds of small problems all the time, impossible to open doors in winter, or if you somehow got a door open it wouldn't close, decided to sell)
Bought in 2014: 2001 Opel Astra Sport 2.2L (fun but ugly, we'll see how long this lasts. It's slowly losing oil somewhere.)

Re: What is your car history?

Let's get my list going then : :D

My first car was a 1998 Audi A4 SE, I don't have any photos but it was a black saloon model wit hthe N/A 1.8 20v engine. Not the fastest car in the world but I was 17 and all my mates had Corsa's/Fiestas etc. so my Audi felt like a rocket back then. It died when the timing belt skipped a tooth, and back then I didn't have the knowledge to fix it :(

Next up is my 2001 Honda Accord SE Executive. I bought this as it had a 2 litre VTEC engine and full leather interior, and at 19 I thought that was what I needed  This one suffered engine failure, an oil seal let go whilst I was driving at motorway speed and oil starvation resulted in piston rod number 2 punching a hole clean through the front of the bottom end. I kept the car and put an imported H22A VTEC engine into it, but it's been off the road since (still in my ownership).

Image

Whilst the Accord was off the road I needed a sensible daily driver. However I saw a 1991 Mk2 Golf for sale locally and bought that instead... 1.6 litre single cam, on a Pierburg 2e2 carb, and with almost 250,000 miles under it's belt. It's not been the most reliable car in the world, but you've got to love a mk2 Golf. I've since swapped a 2 litre AGG engine into it from a mk3 GTi, and I also have the wide track suspension to fit as well as I recently bought a 1.8 turbo engine to go into it. It gets chopped and changed quite a bit this one as it's so easy to work on, but here it is as I bought it (still in my ownership).

Image

Next my girlfriend and I moved in together, and in the run up to this we decided she needed her own car (she had used her parents car previously). She left me to choose what we should get, so I bought an imported 1992 Honda Prelude Si VTEC  She wasn't impressed at first, but after driving it she thought it was great, and it's been her favourite car to date. It was her daily for a bit, then when we bought it's replacement we took it off the road (it's still in our ownership).

Image

Next I started doing a long commute, and we also got a Labrador puppy. A sensible estate with an economical engine was required, and a 1999 Citroen Xsara HDi for sale locally fitted the bill perfectly. Not much to say about this one, it was cheap and did the miles at low cost, and it never went wrong. Was pretty dull though, and I got bored after a year and sold it.

Image

Next to join us was an impulse buy, I loved my Golf so I thought why not buy another old VW (having forgotten all the work I put in to mine to get it anywhere near reliable). I bought a 1988 mk2 Scirocco Scala, it was great fun when it worked. In the end I didn't have the time to get it up to scratch so I sold to a lad who did. I still see it around locally, and I'm at a point where I'd actually like to buy it back now

Image

The next car was a freebie through my old job. It's a 1987 Honda Accord GSi and it was free to a good home fro mone of my clients. I took it in and it has been my Summer daily driver ever since. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I like 80's motors and there's only 2 or 3 Accord GSi's left. For anyone up on 3rd gen Accords, the GSi was fitted with the gold top B20A2 DOHC motor. I still own this car, and if there is ever I car I would not part with it'd have to be this one.

Image

Next I bought my girlfriend a car to rack up mileage in for work. Nothing exciting, just a 2002 Honda Civic SE Executive. It did a fair few miles and then started burning so much oil that I scrapped it. I did consider rebuilding the motor but to be honest it wasn't a car that really merited the work, so this one is no longer with us.

Image

This one I spotted for sale on Facebook, it was a resto project. It's a 1986 Honda Prelude GSi, similar spec to my Accord but with a gold top B20A1 DOHC motor. Not much done with this one, I changed the clutch on my drive as the car was a non mover, then once that was done I gave it a full service and tucked it away into the garage. It needs a lot of bodywork so it's staying in there until I'm ready to send it off to the body shop, hopefully some time next Summer depending on how my other projects go. Needless to say I still have this car in my posession.

Image

I saw this car for sale on my way home from work one night, and went back and bought it the next day. It's a 1993 Isuzu Bighorn 3.1 turbo diesel. I use it as my daily driver in the winter, as something to drive the dogs around in (we have 2 now! Our LAbrador plus a flat coat retreiver, so needed something with a hefty boot...), and for moving other cars about. I absolutely love this truck, and it's probably one of the best value for money cars I've bought so far. I still own this one, and here's a photo of it up at my parent's farm, for your viewing pleasure :)

Image

With the demise of the Civic as mentioned earlier, my girlfriend need another car. We searched far and wide for a sensible commuter for sensible money, and in the end we got this 1999 Audi A6. It's the 1.8 turbo, moves ok for it's size but it'll be getting remapped at some point as well as a larger turbo

Image

Last but not least, I have another car due to arrive this week. I decided to have a go at importing a car from Japan and chose this one, it's a 2001 Subaru Legacy GTB E-Tune 2. It has a 280hp twin turbo flat 4 engine coupled with AWD so should be pretty fun to drive, it's a rare manual with leather interior too :) Should be turning up on Thursday at the latest, and then I can put it in for MOT and register it. Can't wait!

Sorry for the long post, but I hope it's of interest!

I usually bus it to work, I'm not paying $100/mth for parking. However, the times I do drive are usually out of necessity or when I decide to take a nice long drive around the country-side. But yeah, I dunno how I managed to piss off Karma when I haven't done anything remotely negative...

Cars: used to own an 1986 Camaro

Post Fri Nov 21, 2014 1:26 pm

Re: What is your car history?

First car was a 1986 Camaro when I bought it, it was already modded. It had a 350 pulled out of a truck and TH350 3 speed auto tranny swapped in (roughly 240hp), had a few upgraded internals, high comp pistons etc. On paper its still had a 2.8l v6 in it. It had 409,000 km on it when I bought it for 500$ from a farmer. The previous owner painted it pink, redid the interior purple and upgraded the sound system. Unfortunately it had sit in a field for 4 years when I had bought it.

Second car was a 1999 GMC Jimmy SLT. Fully loaded interior, all leather. 4.3l Vortec 190hp. 4 wheel drive. Got it FREE from an old lady. However after a quick trip to a mechanic it needed 4000 dollars worth of work. I promptly gave it away to a family member who needed a car and had money to fix it.

Third car was a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am se, fourdoor. All black, fully loaded, cloth interior. 2.4l I4 150hp. 3 speed auto. Bought it the in final year of high school, had to sell it when I went to college because Tuition was due and student loans were delayed because of a workers strike. Sold it for what I paid for it.

Cars: '74 Triumph Spitfire, '69 Cadillac Funeral Coach, '97 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T Spyder

Post Mon Dec 08, 2014 5:34 pm

Re: What is your car history?

Mine has been long, and varied:
1979 VW Rabbit L Diesel
1973 Dodge Dart Swinger. It was a 318, 2bbl, auto when I got it. When I sold it, it had a 408, EFI, a fiberglass front clip, a Kiesler 5 speed, coil overs, and a 4 link rear.
1974 Dodge Dart 4 door, with a 225 Slant Six.
1969 Cadillac Funeral Coach
1976 Triumph Spitfire 1500
1977 Ford Granada
1979 Alfa Romeo GTV
1968 VW Beetle Sorry, but, you're just not a true car person unless you've owned at least one air cooled VW.
1984 VW Scirocco
1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS-T
1990 Mercedes Benz 300D
1981 Lancia Scorpion
1985 Ford F-150 4.9L I6, and a 3 spd manual.
1989 GMS Suburban 1500 4WD
1991 Dodge Dakota
1996 Dodge Neon ACR, the only new car I ever owned.
There have been a mess of others, as well as a bunch of old Honda bikes, but, these are the most interesting, in my opinion.

One of only two cars to ever almost make me puke during maneuvering. Something about pulling over one lateral G going down Lake Washington Boulevard as it careens around the arboretum.

Cars: 1981 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am, 2000 Chevy Silverado Z71, 2000 Camaro Z28/SS

Post Fri Dec 19, 2014 12:55 pm

Re: What is your car history?

Mines a bit interesting, Im still young, but I've driven a couple of different cars because my father is a car dealer.

My first car was a 2000 Camaro Z28/SS, insurance got crazy, so my parents had to sell it. My dad already has a Camaro, and he allows me to drive it.... sometimes
My second was a 2004 Ford Explorer XLT V6, I wasn't too fond of it, lol
Third was a 2002 Honda Accord V6 Coupe, I had it the longest, and it was a darn good car too.
Current is my passed down 2000 Silverado Z71, it has over 400,000 miles on it, and still runs like it has 300,000 less miles.
Future would be passed down from my father, he has a 1981 Turbo Trans Am, in Smokey and the Bandit colors too!
If I could have one back, I'd take the Camaro, not cause its fast (I know, I sound crazy), but because it sounds cool, and looks cool and it gets good mpg. I somehow got 30+ mpg on the highway!
