My '69 Mustang GT

Hey guys.

Little story behind this one. back in '82, I had two Mustangs. One was a GT with a 390, and the other was a 427 Mach 1 CJ. However, that 390 was without the engine at the time, and I was planning to put in the 427 cammer mid-rise, which I owned. However, as these things happen, I never got the chance, for I put it off due to me starting my own company (which is a success now). It got to '87, and I got married to my wonderful wife Karen. We were living in a two bed, one bath house in Hialeah, Florida; not such a good neighborhood, but it was cheap. Of course, I had to downsize my car collection, and got rid of my two mustangs, one to a person that I didn't know, and my GT to a friend of mine, complete with the engine, for 30 grand.

That was the end of my ability to do anything interesting with cars for a while.

Then, 18 years and two kids later, I met my friend again. He was working for a construction company, like mine, who took a job where I was also working. He had wrecked my car. Also, to show how much of an idiot he was, he sold that 427 without doing any research on it. He sold it for *sigh* one grand. One freaking grand, when the heads alone from the original engine were selling for $4,500. *sigh again*. The car was rusted over, the chassis was in ok shape though, and the 390 he had put in it was badly tuned, knocking, and in general, running like a pig. I bought my car that I owned in high school back for 4 grand. This, was the GT.

I did some research. While this does not always depict this accurately, there are only 53 69 gt's registered in the US. So, I decided to keep it.

Now, it has a 427 Ford Dart stroker producing about 770 HP naturally aspirated at 7500 RPM, very similar to the old 427. It is painted viper blue with two black stripes, as a tremec 5 speed, and no radio. Who needs a radio with that engine anyway? Only got two things to do, seatbelts (nah) and insurance. Just kidding of course! I have the insurance!

Pics to come

I'd love to see some video of that thing running, I imagine it sounds pretty excellent :)

May get a vid soon, we will see. The sound level is, well, slightly disapproved of in this neighborhood, and the amount of exhaust gasses tears up my grass, so I will have to wait for the right time.

Here you go! Idle and low revs only, was planning to get a little burnout but got shouted at by the neighbors by simply starting it

Oh, it was roaring. Maybe it can roar LOUDER than that, but definitely at a roaring status already in that vid! haha And, that's a GOOD thing!

Let's just say, it roars louder at 2k rpm than mine does at 5k!

I hate people like that.. If It were me I would troll the hell outta them..

Lucky for my neighbours they don't seem to be bothered too much when I start up my old loud diesel or my Datsun.

Also, nice car, I really like your choice of rims. :)

Thanks man :) They were my son's choice. Also, I did mess with them a little bit already; the reason they get angry is this.

They rolled up next to me in an CLS 63 AMG; there is a road near me that is just 6 miles of straight road. I was driving with a friend of mine, me in my Mustang him in his 68 Camaro with a 396 putting about 490 Hp to the wheels (We had just come back from the Miami Auto Show). He (Mr. NamelessNeighbor) pulled up and said "That car is way too loud for how fast it is." That didn't make me very happy. This was right after I got it repainted, first time driving it again, and I was feeling proud, though my tires were pretty low on tread, and I was gonna change them out any day anyway.

I love the CLS; I've test drove them, and that's a nice car; but it wasn't anywhere near powerful enough. He was with me in first while I was sideways, and then he was equal with the Camaro. The Camaro hit the end of 4th at 160 (He had taken it to Bonniville, it was only a 4 speed)), and they were dead even to 155, when the Camaro went to redline. I was already gone. My speedometer didn't work (And still doesn't, my tranny has the wrong sending gear, as does my fuel tank), so I don't know how fast I was going, but I do know that 160 is 6700 RPM in 5th (Overdrive) and I was at near 8000. Take of that what you will

Fun fact: My son was with me; he wasn't into cars before this. Lets just say he is now ;)

Great story! I've never really liked the German sedan-coupes like the CLS, A7, and BMW Gran Coupes. I don't see why one would buy one. If you want a coupe, buy a coupe, if you want a sedan, buy a sedan.

Perhaps; but few cars have their... let's say presence. I've driven the whole mercedes/Audi/BMW/Lexus lines, and the CLS made me feel the most (other than perhaps the Alpina b7 or s class merc) or the king of the road. I shouldn't compare it to a street rod, for that is what my mustang is; it does have a ton of power.

Not linking the CLS, jakgoe?

How can one resist this:

This has nearly as much practicality and looks a whole lot better:
