Re: My daily and the weekend toy - warning, get coffee. And

Well, spent the weeking fabricating the new front mudguard mounts, made new steering tie-rods, and stripped the steering rack.
Rack had loads of play in it and no provision for any adjustment for wear and tear, so I had to sand the whole case down by hand with wet + dry paper, until it got back to a nice, tight sliding fit again, then bond tiny strips of 0.25mm thick shim steel to the rack bar to bring it back into proper engagement with the pinion, and then make some more tiny strips of shims to give the appropriate clearance back on the casing, as well as changing all the support bearings.

It involved lots of swearing.
And it's a good job the firm that make the rack have gone bust so I can't go over the pond and kick them square in the nuts.

If we can find a touch more sponsorship, or cut down on bacon sandwich consumption for a bit, it's getting supercharged in the summer.

Be a lot more fun and a lot less cash than wasting $1500 on poorly machined rotors :D

Just bedding engine in atm, so slow and steady, front suspension feels much better already though, lot of refinements and setup left yet though, will probably be the second race before it's running close to how it actually should be.

Did well at the dyno....

Just renewed all the suspension bearings today, some repair work on an upright, and fitted the new front springs too.

Are you really getting 700hp and 650ft/lbs tq out of that motor? That is insane, and impressive. I love it

Nah, just a wind-up :D

Actual hub-figure is the yellow line, 240bhp at the hubs, 168lbft there too.

Re: My daily and the weekend toy - warning, get coffee. And

More to come yet, there's another 20bhp and 20lbft in it yet, especially down low, some new bits to finish making yet then bolt 'em on and back for a tweak on the dyno next month.

Was running 7th overall today (which was a lot better than it sounds as a lot of big hitters had come along from another championship, against last years guys we were 4th), but had one of the VW parts on the front suspension fail and lost a wheel, had to limp 3 miles to the finish so dropped back to 11th.
