Re: My 300ZX

Well let me know then :P Either way, it's still a pretty cumbersome and heavy car.

Re: My 300ZX

Not at all. My 2+2 Z32 weighed 1650kg and was a beast to handle properly when driving active.

The week i got to drive my Z31 before putting her in the garage to be properly healed i drove 500 km home. And got to feel her up a little.

She weighs 1350 kg and the difference between the z32 is huge.

Re: My 300ZX

Wow... The VG30 block must be pretty heavy! Even the Z31 is heavier than my 'sensible family estate'!

I know the Z32 turbos are pretty heavy due to all the added electronics, HICAS, etc, but I'm surprised by the Z31...

Still, weight isn't everything. There aren't many daily driveable cars that will outdo an R35 GT-R on the track, yet it weighs 1740KG, despite the fact that the power to weight ratio is a good deal lower than most of its close competitors.

I mean, the net effect of the insurance industry in the UK is the same (although some of they insurance bands are less logical with respect to the performance of the car than others) but to say somebody who is young is necessarily going to be a more dangerous driver than somebody older is downright patronising. Thankfully I'm 24 with 6 years' claim-free and offence-free driving experience behind me so it's not so ridiculous now, but I still can't reasonably afford to insure anything fast. Not that I'd particularly want to, except for track days :) (although my definition of of 'fast' might have been blurred somewhat thanks to a lot of time spent playing Gran Turismo and Forza :P)

THIS! I can't believe it, I've had a turbo V6 with ~300hp since I turned 17...I bought my first NA Z31 when I was 15, and at the age of 16 when I got my license I drove it (weak)...then I turbocharged it....insurance still thought it was NA though.

A VG30ET weighs about 380lbs....80lbs lighter than the old straight 6, the VG30DE(TT) in the Z32 is waaay heavier. You have to remember though, the Z31 was loaded with just as many electronics as the Z32, but lacked the HICAS...and Z31s are bigger than the compact sedans of the 80s....especially a 2+2, which is heavier than a 2+0....and despite size, the additional bracing added to improve chassis rigidity because of the t-tops adds weight too. A 84-85 Z31, 2+0, base model with t-tops which were standard (in the US, which still had power windows/locks etc) weighed about 2880lbs. "Slicktops" (no t-tops) weighed slightly less.
