Spartacus's DD and track toy

Hey all, just wanted to make a thread for my baby, a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon (Hyundai Coupe in most countries). I got it about 2 years ago for fairly cheap, with a few problems, and since I've fixed it up, I've had a lot of fun at track days and autocross events, although it still sometimes gives me mechanical grief. May not be the fastest, or the nicest out there, but I love having a car that isn't very common and super fun to drive.

Some pics from the day I bought her:

Current mod list:
Body/suspension:
grille delete
rear fake diffuser delete
short antenna
17" OEM painted wheels w/ Dunlop Direzza Star Specs 245/45/R17
DC Sports front strut bar
Headlights:
35W 6000K HID fogs
55W 8000K HID lows
LED running lights and turn signals
Tinted lens
Tailights:
Tinted lens
LED reverse lights
Interior:
JVC Headunit
Kicker CVX10 sub w/ KX600.1 amp
interior LED conversion, some interior accents
Engine:
Injen SRI
oil catch can
black powdercoated valve covers
Magstar plug wires
NGM AFPR
DC Sports headers
custom 2.5" exhaust with magnaflow cat and HKS hi-power muffler.

Future plans are hopefully full bolt-ons and then supercharger, two-seater conversion with some nice Sparcos, and drop it on coilovers and some other suspension mods. Hopefully I will be able to afford some of that over the summer.

Zeussy has a fetish for these, and I must say they do look good!

Shame about the lack of power stock, but nothing a supercharger won't fix!

Re: Spartacus's DD and track toy

Yeah, it's not that powerful but the V6 does have great torque. It has a lot less power than an RSX, for example, but it's got a whole lot more torque than a K20, so it can hold its own. And it really does handle well. The Canadians love this car, until recently the Tiburon was one of the most popular cars in the CTCC.

Hopefully when I graduate from college, I will be able to get something that is nationally competitive in SCCA autocross (looking at an Integra Type-R), and then a B-spec road racer. I plan on keeping this as my nice street-built daily driver.

Painted valve covers and plug wires are the only visual mods right now, definitely wanting a nice intake manifold to replace the ugly ones that are stained from spray from an A/C line break.

Re: Spartacus's DD and track toy

It's been a while since I posted an update, but I have done a few things. I now have proper powdercoated valve covers and magstar red plug wires, and am currently working on this:
Image
Already removed the rust from the headers and painted them with header paint and am almost done installing them. Installing headers on a transverse V6 in a tiny engine bay is a pain! The A/C and alternator are in the way so must first be removed. It's taken me about 6 hours of work and I am nearly done. The rest is stainless steel parts to re-do my exhaust in, as the current one is rusting a lot.
Parts list:
DC Sports headers
Magnaflow 91006 cat
HKS Hi-Power 65mm muffler
4FT Vibrant Racing 304 Stainless 2.5" ID pipe
Vibrant Racing 304 Stainless 45 degree mandrel bends x6
Kooks stainless 2.5" flange
Summit racing stainless hangers and clamps x3
summit racing stainless flange bolt x2
Rust-Oleum header primer and flat black paint
Victor-reinz 3-layer header gaskets
stickers :)
I leave you all with an image of me three-wheeling it and smoking my front tires at the last autocross event. Love my car :)
Image
will be back with another update soon!

Just awesome car.. You are so fortunate... Have you done any modifications?
