Well as my windows has been deleted from my mac and I have no way to play the designer demo.
Question one. Easy to use yes/no
Question two. How much can I change the car from its basic shape

not having windows doesn't mean you don't have youtube check out our channel and various let's plays to see what can be done and what not.

I've had a small look like cone dodger and a few others but I can't tell as no ones really made anything to far from the templates and I wonder how far you can stray from the template.

You can't stray all that far from the templates shape wise, the stuff that cone dodger does is a good example of what's possible. There will be a lot more templates in future.

You can with just a little bit of modding go quite far from the templates, although the car will most of the times look like it has already been in an accident if you do that. Which is the reason for the limits that have been chosen by the devs so as to not having to develop a new system of how the bodywork "stretches".

I think I might have learned some things that will improve that in future updates too
