Post Your Favourite Indie Games

I think some of the best games ever made were by Independent Developers, like this game.. They have the kind of character and detail you just don't get with mainstream games.. And as I get older I find I am playing less and less of the mainstream games because they are almost always a dissapointment..

I'll start with a few of my favourites:

1.Dwarf Fortress:
What I say about DF.. Its quite possibly the most detailed and complex strategy game ever made. Although the problem with calling it a game is that games can be won, and DF only has a long list of ways to lose. There are no Casual DF players, atleast they don't last long.. One does not simply play Dwarf Fort. :P The ascii graphics and lack of mouse support scare most away, but with a good graphics mod and a bit of paitience it can be a very fun experience.

Also its quite satisfying to watch a Kobold Thief being chased by Batman

2.Minecraft
If I need to explain what minecraft is you must have been living under a rock. :P So I'll let Yahtzee Explain instead.

So what are your favourite Indie games?

Indie is hard term to define,

SOASE I would say is now a normal games company.

My rule of thumb, is if you have an office, you are no longer indie.

Battlefront.com began as an independent game company. Their first release, Combat Mission was released on the web, as they didn't have a publisher. As far as I know the first three Combat Mission games were made by only 3-4 people. They are still a small company with a low budget compared to the giants like EA, but they make top quality games.

So my fav. indie game is the first Combat Mission.

Its hard not to fail in that game.. But sometimes the fun is in setting an impossible task. I was thinking of outfitting a millitary expedition to some haunted lands and build a (above ground)fort and see how long they last.

I love the artifacts, they can be really hillarious sometimes. Heres a funny thread about it on their forums: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.ph ... ic=21449.0

As for minecraft, building cannons is a ton of fun if you havent already. Here is a video of a standard cannon, and my improved version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWY_Ft6N5Jw
