There was a more recent cadillac nuclear car idea.
Seriously people.
You need like a layer of 2metres cement and like 5cm of lead around the reactor so that it would be even remotely safe.

Re: Strangest layout

Not particularly... you can get a very small amount to generate enough energy. It would need a very thick box, but not 2 metres thick cement. It is possible.

Re: Strangest layout

I got an even crazier idea... a car powered by 2 Wankel 26B Turbo engines, one per front wheel, the steering is in the rear wheels and for more downforce it's got two actual reverse plane wings

Re: Strangest layout

How about a car with no wheels? Here's how (theoretically): an electromagnetic undertray on top of a road system that is fully magnetized in the same polarization as the undertray's side that is facing the road surface (producing magnetic levitation). Now have some plasma thrusters to power the contraption (fueled by liquid hydrogen and powered externally through either microwaves or inductive charging (in the road surface as well! This should be done through resonant inductive coupling). Additionally, air brakes can be employed to help with braking (and turning, similar to the Pagani Huayra), as well as having additional thrusters on the sides to enable sideways movement (as well as having large gimbal capabilities on all thrusters). Additional turning capabilities can be achieved through rear-mounted fins with control surfaces to enable yaw control while at higher speeds (and thus reduce the need for the side thrusters for turning, and instead relegate their operation at high speed to stability).

Congratulations, you've made what is essentially an F-Zero machine!

Ladies and gentlemen, I do believe history has already settled this.

Behold, the Reliant Robin!

Three wheel layouts FTW. And if you're wondering, this is what happens when you try to drive it around corners.

How about a car with the engine configured to run inverted?
