All I did was make a car and when I went to put it in a company, only the one company, I got this error.

be patient, the devs are in bed right now, and just a heads up the gamelog.txt helps them out usually

Yes I had the same. I deleted that broken company and make it again.

When you deleted it, did you lose all of the cars that were in it, or did they just go back to being not in a company?

Deleting a company does not affect the cars in it, no.
