I must say I find this odd, as Automation is supposed to install the needed framework when it is downloaded.

Yeah, it does in theory. Though .NET framework seems to be an annoyingly flaky thing, sometimes deciding it's already installed when it actually isn't.
(Also I can't remember if it's .net or DirectX, but one of those tries to install the Bing toolbar.. *headdesk)
