The economy of the very heavy car I put it in is off the charts in the other direction, 282 mpg. Something doesn't math.

I'd be surprised if that engine would actually MOVE that car a full mile with only 7hp/5tq, let alone 282.4 miles. Out of pure curiosity, what does it show as a top speed for the 2.5 ton car with that engine?

Right around 22 mph. It reaches that speed just before the last corner of the airfield track, after going flat out the whole way. The whole trip takes 5 minutes.
