Updater won't work?

Man, it seems like I'm having no luck with this game. :/

Although it wouldn't work on my old computer (posted about that a while back), I've recently purchased a brand new Windows 8 laptop which more than fulfills the minimum specifications and I'm having no luck.

Here's the issue:

I download the launcher and open it. It says my build is 0 and asks to install B1417. I do so, a pop-up appears and installs B1417. It completes and I go back to the launcher. It says downloading version info for a second, and then the prompt re-appears saying my build is 0 and asks to install B1417. I click yes. I get a pop-up saying that the installer has already been downloaded, and asks if I want to download it again. I click no. The launcher window says 'downloading stuff' and works its way up to 762 MB. It completes and the top of the launcher window still says 'Build: 0'. I can't click 'Play game.' A few minutes later the pop-up for the B1417 installer reappears. Repeat over and over and over again...

Everything is going into C:/ProgramData. I've tried compatibility mode for Windows 7. Still nothing. Seems there's a lack of communication between the launcher and updater? My Automation folder in C:/ProgramData is over 1 GB of data.. :?:

ProgramData is the one location we've had troubles with in the install process, try out something else, like c:\Games\Automation or so. :)

Additionally I just realized I clicked 'suggestions' instead of 'support' *facepalm* Mind moving this topic for me? haha Sorry

I removed the entire thing and just tried again in a new directory that I made under Downloads.. Still no luck. :( Just puts me through the same routine. "Automation has been successfully installed." ... "Current build: 0. Update now?" Any other hints you might be able to give? Thanks :)

Have you tried running the patch manually?
