What's that log file from, is that from the DirectX installer's log?

Not sure on that one. If directX won't install properly that's more of a Windows issue than anything else.

I know sometimes it ends up that you have to do a repair install/reinstall of windows to fix that kind of problem, but not sure in your case, might be worth searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
