To the staff Concerning low AKI under high boost

This is Ian from Facebook posting my build that features 800 horse out of a 5.0L V8, running an AKI of only 51.2. It is designed specifically to run at a very low octane, after posting on FBook, R. Hoischen asked for the file to be uploaded. Here it is. Not sure if this is technically feasible IRL.

I will take a quick look at it but I use RON numbers

Should not matter too much between RON or AKI, the concern was just that it was quite low. RON should be like 54 maybe? I am ballparking it though so grains of salt. Just thought it was odd that a 5.0L V8 developing 800 HP (597 KW) could run that low of an octane.

Well... running modern DI at 6:1 compression ratio, flooding the cylinders with a air to fuel ratio of 10.4:1 and using an ignition timing of 0. In this case I don't really care how low your RON requirement is :D that engine is just not very usable with its 1700 g/kWh fuel efficiency. I made a rough calculation of its fuel consumption and end up at 60L/100km or 4.7 MPG.

Cheers!

thats still better than the Bugatti Veyron which gets what 2MPG or better than the Hummer H2 that gets 1MPG if I remember Top Gear Correctly lol

To be fair, the Bugatti does that at 250 mph and the H2 actually averages around 10 MPG (us) or 12 MPG (uk)

I have a problem with my engine making horrible power and somehow sucking just pure fuel instead of being ecobox with reasonable power... thats not logical.

Your turbo is waaaay too small.

Here's what I changed:
  • Lower compression
  • Lower ignition
  • Much less fuel
  • Appropriately sized turbo with a modest level of boost

Yeah, that. Cool it with raw fuel, run really tame timing and have almost no compression at all and you can probably run it on anything you like. It'll just chew fuel like its going out of fashion.

What the failed to mention was that if you looked quickly, right before Jeremy floors it, the MPG readout read 22 MPG. Of course it will say 1 MPG, he just floored it so the computer is recalculating.
