I uninstalled everything and ran the cleaner, redownloaded and reinstalled everything. Still getting the same error when launching the demo.

In general.. not necessarily related to the problem, have you considered updating to any other operating system? Windows XP is terribly outdated. And by terribly I mean.. it is a danger to use an XP PC nowadays to surf the web. Perhaps an OS change would not only solve your problem with Automation, but improve your computer experience in general.

Yes. I deleted unistalled everything then deleted every Automation folder and ran the cleaner.

Should there be a confirmation that the cleaner has deleted everything? When I click clean it doesn't appear to do anything.

People have had trouble running the game on XP in the past, so you might be an unlucky one. There are people that do run the game on it, so don't think it is a lost cause.
