Yes, but generally not for an American car. (yeah there were even some here in America, but they were the exception, not the rule) Americans tend to think they were the first and only, so if it wasn't used here, it wasn't used. Damn arrogant Americans!

Better even with all the racing stuff (dragsters, etc.), as soon as someone used DOHC and thus pwned the pushrod competition, that tech was banned right away because pushrod is 'MURICA! and no one shall take our freedom*!
