New update is.. bad

I hate to rip on such a cool game, and I'm fully aware this is a work in progress, but the new update is.. for a lack of better words, bad. Which is a shame because its so damn good. The new bodies are awesome and everything looks much more polished. That being said..
1) Once again the auto patcher or whatever you wanna call it failed to update my game after a 3 hour wait. I had to come on the forums yet again and manually download it. Not much else to say here, its a known problem and I'm sure its being addressed.
2) The whole new save thing is crap. Don't get me wrong I like the idea of it, but it really doesn't work. I just lost two cars I spent quite a while on because of this. which leads me to my third point...
3) Certain headlights, Taillights, and other seemingly random things tend to make this game crash like... a lot. Its almost to the point where its not even worth playing which is heartbreaking because the game is just so damn cool.
I'm not here to put the game or its developers down. I just thought I'd toss the idea out there that instead of making ready for this tycoon mode, make the game able to sustain itself for more than 10 minutes at a time without crashing. I play this insanely enjoyable game with an overwhelming fear that every time I have to click something, error codes and the like pop up and my game vanishes, along with my "hard work".

Re: New update is.. bad

1)That does happen from time to time, and unfortunately there isn't much we can do about it.

2) Patch coming to fix that soon. I suggest you convert over to the Steam version if you want the hotfixes as quickly as possible, as it's much quicker to put out little steam updates, so they happen a bit more often.

3)Could you please let me know when it crashes and what errors you get? We've literally never had a report for this version crashing with anything to do with headlights or taillights, so if you can let us know what is happening we can try and work out how to stop it happening.

We're still working on more bugfixes for known bugs before we press on with further development. But a lot of these weird issues are literally only happening for one to two people out of 20,000, and not happening at all for our testers, so unless we're told about them, we'll never know they exist :)

Another thing you need to do is NOT play full-screen, once you get one LUA error the game will crash in full screen, play in windowed mode and adjust your screen size to be almost full-screen (eg 1920x1080 is roughly 1900x1000). When the LUA errors pop up you can just click "ok" on them and continue playing for 99% of the errors, I have VERY rarely had an error bad enough to crash the windowed version.

Re: New update is.. bad

I never play in fullscreen. And now I cant play the game at all. Right after clicking play game it crashes saying something about memory missing or corrupt. I am beyond frustrated with this. I assume once again ill have to download the newest patch from a direct link since mine is 150328 and yesterday a new patch came out 150330. Can someone tell me where I may find that so I can wait 3 hours yet again to attempt to play this game?

I would honestly get the Steam version, the standalone is not going to be updated as often and will have many more bugs than the Steam version. Plus with the Steam version you can do a file verification check to repair any errors.

Yeah, I would recommend not to get too attached to your things for now. There will probably be other updates in the future that break things but this is to be expected as new things are added in the car design process.

Yeah, I'm afraid Steam is always going to be 100% more reliable at rolling out updates, they've got millions of dollars of kickass infrastructure behind their patching system.

You can convert to the Steam version for free here - ucp.php?i=199, I highly recommend it, particularly if the launcher isn't reliably updating for you.

Re: New update is.. bad

Hey guys, been searching for a while in the forums looking for someone with the same problem but didn't seem to find, anyway...the custom tracks seem to have disappeared and I can't select them anymore, even through they are still in the folder...is there something I need to do to be able to select them again?
Thanks

I wish I could go back to version 1414... the last version before the Steam release. That still had a manual save and none of this engine family stuff.

There is a new folder now, you need to look under "My Games" in the "My Documents" folder, you also should delete your old Automation folder after you move the tracks over, the game does not use the old setup anymore, this applies to the Steam version though, I do not know if the standalone still uses the old system.

If you converted to steam you'll need to copy your "tracks" folder from my documents/automation/ to my documents/my games/automation/

Re: New update is.. bad

Regarding the save thing, the game fails to load certain cars, engines or trims despite the files being present in the correct folders, you have to remove the files and then replace them for the game to recognize them and build the correct cars. Do note that these said files were not downloaded from anywhere and where made on this specific computer.
