Suspension animations?

I was watching the old Little Dev Update that introduced suspension types, and noticed in that video that there was a way to make the suspension animate. Is that still a feature being supported, and if so, how does one activate it?

Re: Suspension animations?

I'm not sure either. I tried the "-" key on both the regular keyboard and num pad, though, and they don't do anything in the current version.

Re: Suspension animations?

We switched that off due to problems that brings for the calculations: the ride height is measured on the physical model according to the bounding boxes. So you could use the suspension wiggle to make a "super offroader". :P

Re: Suspension animations?

That's the point, it can't, or only with a LOT of effort.

Re: Suspension animations?

Would it be possible to have animations restricted to the summary page only, and reset the suspension when you leave that page?

Re: Suspension animations?

Hmm, maybe, that would have to be tied into the calculations finishing too though. I'll ask Cas tomorrow.

Re: Suspension animations?

Just throwing this out there, but there was an old PC racing game (forgot the name) where you could bounce the car as if dropping it from a small height. Sounds like a dumb gimmick, but you could really visually see if the suspension was overdamped or underdamped, or if you were hitting the bump stops, or if the front and rear spring rates were well balanced. I know the answer is probably "no way in hell", but at the same time it doesn't hurt to ask. :)

Re: Suspension animations?

Oppositelock, yeah, that would require a full simulation run for just that. Not impossible, but not worth the effort right now. :)
