Hired specialists/ enthusiasts

I just watched the Dev update on youtube.

Similar to the specialists that you can hire to reduce engineering time, if you hire an enthusiast in one particular niche that person would know little things that would make the car better for that niche, things that would be impractical to implement in the game for the player to control.

For example I am an off road enthusiast, Something I would look at and improve on the design would be making sure everything is tucked up and out of the way as much as possible so that they don't catch on objects on the trail, or rough road. No decrease in engineering time, but a bonus to its off road capability.

That doesn't fit into our plans of "the only stat affected directly by staff is reliability". So we have to give this one a pass, although it would be an interesting mechanic :)

Re: Hired specialists/ enthusiasts

But this brings an interesting question. What about brand specialization in certain market groups?
For example. A brand like Land Rover is specialized in Off-Road vehicles. Even they build a luxury vehicle like the Range Rover it still has a lot of off-roading ability. How can something like this be reflected ingame?

That can be done in game already, when you build a car focus on keeping the off-road capability high, or whatever your brands focus is.

You almost make it sound like it might get discussed with the rest of the team. :P

Re: Hired specialists/ enthusiasts

For example my company focuses on Off-road, utility and reliability.

My cars are generally not very sporty, and tend to not be very comfortable.

I know. I meant having a brand that gets brand value in certain target groups.
Example, Jeep is known for making off-roaders, Lamborghini is known for making sportscars even though Lamborghini made the LM002.

You mention specialists. In the last LDU Killrob mentioned some engineers will give bonuses on tech-pool. Specialists could be like advisors that bump a certain group desirability over others.
You get my point?

Re: Hired specialists/ enthusiasts

Your brand will have different prestige (not the car stat) and awareness in the 60 different buyer categories depending on how well your car does in their category. Is that what you mean? For that we don't want to have special agents/individuals to bolster those stats but your marketing can target specific car stats to focus on, which will give you more awareness / prestige in the categories that care about said stat.
