VVL and VVT

VVL = Variable Valve Lift and VVT = Variable Valve Timing, right?

So why can't I adjust timing when I can adjust the lift? It would make a big difference in engine characteristics at which rpm the valve timing would change and by how much.

My impression was that VVT was adjusted along with the cam profile. Otherwise there's been discussions elsewhere about just how "adjustable" VVL and VVT should be.

the calculations are automatic for VVT and it sets it at best possible location on the power band

same goes for VVL activation time
