How the hell can it be more visible than being the first item on the forum list? :s
Fact: Stupid/ignorant people who ask these questions DON'T READ. Hell, we get emails every day complaining that V16 are not in the game, i.e. people don't even read the buy page before making a 35 dollar purchase. Do you really think they will read an FAQ? No amount of pointing or shouting about it will help, so we don't - that would be a waste of energy.

So to answer the question in the OP: by now we've just accepted it as a fact we cannot possibly change and thus, getting angry about it would be silly. It comes with the territory!
Re: Millions of new people asking the same seven questions.

And yeah, I'm not sure how we could make the FAQ more visible. I'm sure even having a massive flashy image will not do much to help, people just ignore that stuff anyway

after the " lurker " stage was over you were then able to post in the Newbie section of the forum but no other areas for again X amount of time or until you had a good rating. by doing this you seclude all the silly questions that will be asked to one area of the site and those brave enough to answer them would have to do so in a more respectable manner then.

We could do the above or, just add a filter that won't allow posts involving certain words. Like, if they ask for a "v16" it will bar the thread from being created and point you to a relevant thread.

Yeah, those three links are very obviously listed right when you click on forum, so can't get any more visible without nagging everybody.
While I was on the Rigs of Rods forum a few years ago, (Cheeseman will remember this), There was a feature where after deciding on a new thread name, a list of similar thread names would be displayed. Obviously the ignorant will still be ignorant about it, but it should help filter out the over-enthusiastic newcomers from the incompetent.
Pretty sure their forum was run on BBCode too.

Yep, I do. Still on there even today. Has come in handy for me when the search engine was just giving me back either nothing or everything (thanfully the search here isn't quite as bad).
