Also, FYI, the calculations for more engine types are already done, it's just the art and sounds that need to be done, and it's much more complicated than you think.

I'm an university-educated engineer (real engineer, that is, not someone who merely has a MSCE certification), currently working on my master's degree and well-versed in many programming languages, frameworks, algorithms, and so on. Making a game takes a lot of time. Making code that looks good on the surface is a grunt job anyone can do; making code that performs well is a bit harder.

Everybody missed this question, so I shall ask it... Why?!?!?!
But seriously, wouldn't you rather build far more interesting engines than a 1L triple that is designed to save Ford money? The concept behind Automation is to build the cars you'd make if you could, not re-create an engine that you can go outside and experience in far richer detail than Automation could ever provide...
If you're bored then enter the community challenges; you'll learn lots about designing within set parameters and the joys/pains of peer evaluation. I personally have learnt heaps about how this game works by having my backside handed to me in every car comp I've entered...
