Platform and Model Limits

When the tycoon aspect is released and what not, I want to make cars that have a variety of options like real companies do. This isn't a feature request, this just to find out if there is a limit on the number of files for platforms and models that Automation will output. I doubt it, but you can't be too certain. Plus, others might ask the same question. When I say "variety of options", I'm referring to the ability to have power steering and a basic interior, or the option to have hand crafted interior and basic entertainment. I'm willing to make them (obviously), but will Automation let me?

Re: Platform and Model Limits

In effect, you already can do that now. Design your base model, save it, then revise it. Change around the options to get the variant you want and save it with a (slightly) different name.

Re: Platform and Model Limits

I think you might have misunderstood the question... he's asking if there's a limit to the number of files you can save that Automation will be able to load from. Say like in Gran Turismo, you could only have 100 cars at max (to give something of an analogy). At least, that's how I believe he meant.

Re: Platform and Model Limits

Ohh, right, sorry if I missed that, I thought he dismissed the limit himself in the question already and of course he was right in doing so. Why should there be any artificial limit? :)

Re: Platform and Model Limits

Not artificial per se, but would the game crash with some overflow error when we save model number 257 for example

Heh no, this is not the olden days where you had to rationalize away the "long int" with a "short int" to save space xD

Re: Platform and Model Limits

Ah. I plan on having around 20 different models for each car; a base model that everyone can afford, all the way up to Rolls Royce styled models. I hope you can choose how many of each to produce, or I'll go broke on the first day.

So only if we saved something over ~2.47 billion would the game start frying itself?

I thought it'd be unsigned int, so ~4.95 billion more likely.

Yeah, Kubby is right!

Well, I guess so :P with an average model taking 100kb, that would be 495 TB of data, which I doubt your harddrive can take and the game would probably crash because of that ;)

My harddrive doesn't even hold 1 TB. Must upgrade to break game! :P
