I am considering purchasing the game, however ive read alot about DLC. My question is will the DLC be available for free to the users who bought the game, or will you have to purchase the DLC individually?

The way I understand from the way its presented by:

When you buy lets say Supercharged now, you get all the stuff that is NOT DLC, but marked as Automation v1.0 (the first full-game release)
Some DLC will come free, other DLC will cost money (probably diesel engines for example will cost money) as there is quite some development time going into creating and calculating diesel engines.

So in short; Yes most DLC will cost extra money and you will need the full game for the DLC to work, of course.

Thanks for the information, I feel as if the game is too pricey to ask for even more money for dlc, Its just MY OPINION, so dont rant and complain about what I said (not directly related to your answer WizzyThaMan, just any possible future trolls)

Well, you're welcome to buy or not buy any DLC as you wish, but the fact is that if we're going to spend a long period of time after the release of the game working on extra content, we need to recoup the costs of doing that work. I'm afraid that's how the business side of things works.

We're certainly not shuffling anything that was going to be part of the original game to be DLC, rather we'd be using it to add features that we never originally had the time or budget to do. I agree that a lot of AAA studios lately are going for $60 - $80 prices at launch and day 1 DLC, but that's not us, any paid DLC would be developed after release and be quite cheap.

The first 10 seconds of this video accurately sums up how I feel about Automation's [future] DLC.

I understand where you are coming from, but if the game is already at its current price between 25-35 $$ I wouldnt expect to pay more than $5's for a decently sized update as a DLC. Game creators complain that pirating games ruin gaming companies, but in my opinion high priced games and game content forces people to pirate the games. Plus there is so many good examples of money wasted on games, that either they stop developing and dont release after beta, or release and never fix a bug after they collect their money. I understand that the work is hard, Im a programmer by trade. And i understand its great to be rewarded for your late sleepless nights, Just dont try to rob everyones pockets on a AAA game.

Well it'll probably come down to either working on major content and feature additions as DLC, or simply moving on to work on a different game that is more financially viable. We certainly don't want to screw people out of every dollar, and we're never going to sell DLC that fixes things that are broken, that's always going to be free patches.

We have to make the decisions that allow us to stay in business and continue making games, so if we're going to invest major amounts of time and money in expansions we're going to have to pay for that somehow. I agree that DLC should be quite cheap though, if it's just a bunch of additional content then $5 sounds about right to me.

In a market where AAA games can be as expensive as $90 - $100, I don't think $25 - $35 is unreasonably high for an enthusiast focused low budget game, nor do I think it's unreasonable to sell expansions after the release of the finished product.

Regardless, we're not going to even consider working on any kind of DLC/expansions until we've delivered the final and completed game with the features we've promised. This is not a "Hey, lets hold back features for DLC", this is a "If people love the final product and can fund our continuned development then we'll do more cool stuff". Our business decisions are never focused on trying to milk the customers for every dollar, merely to create a sustainable studio that can continue to make awesome things for you guys to enjoy. That does cost money though.

Well said Daffy.

They already made a large sum of money probably by now, looking at how active these forums are and how many people already have bought the game. I trust them in developing this cool game. They are not like Electronic Arts that ships a half-done game and patches the game along the way to full. I think every DLC they will produce after the final game, for lets say a fixture package, it could cost 5 dollars. For compelte engine-sets liek diesels and Rotary, I would be willing to pay even 10 bucks, because they deserve it.

I could see paying more for a multi engine release, but not 10$ for a diesel and 10$ for a rotary engine. and thats the point im trying to make. I can justify the 25-35$ purchase, its a great game and concept, im just curious what the DLC would enclose and what the final price would be. I know that is far in the future but that weighs into me purchasing the game. If DLC is released, of course im going to want to buy it, I wouldnt pass up on it. In my opinion the engine building phase of this game is awesome, and ive been waiting for a game like this for a long A$$ time.

Oh god yeah, we're not going to charge a third of the price of the game for one extra engine type I don't think, that'd be a bit excessive.

I was just stating what I would be willing to pay for it, take that in mind. Anything cheaper of course is accepted.

I'll quite likely be buying all DLC as it's released... just FYI, lol.

Possibly the same, but I do wonder...

Will we be at a disadvantage if we don't buy it? By this, I mean, if DLC is offered, will it also be present in some form in patches... meaning that the AI can take advantage of the DLC content?

As an example, let's say you release hybrid engines or semi-trucks. Will the AI be creating designs that incorporate either of those, and will the game's consumers be seeking vehicles with those traits out, or will it be as if they didn't exist...at all...in the game provided you don't have it?

I'd say it'd be as if that tech didn't exist at all, otherwise it'd be weird pay to win stuff.
