Yep - that's the main point of game - ability to recreate (or create) almost every car with built-in car designer.

could i change the garage or implement different sounds?

It should be possible - devs said that game will be as moddable as engine allows.

Re: Will Automation be Moddable

We haven't really thought a great deal about what will be modable, but we'll try to make as much as possible.

If there was something you couldn't create with the car designer, you could model your own "base car", but the process of importing them is fairly complex, you need to be comfortable with rigging and skinning models for example.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to replace the garage model for example, you'd of course need to make sure it was correctly scaled, placed, named etc.

Sound you could probably do, but as we are fast finding out, you'd be hard pressed to get good sound recordings without a dyno - and you'll need to put the sounds together with FMOD designer

I have been modeling (manly cars) 5 years now, I Love to make Cars.
I texture pretty good for the tools i am working with. I'm curious how you are using Armatures (Rigging) to make these cars.

Its almost impossible to get any sound from dynos lol

im actually modeling a 2005 Chevy Tahoe Z71 (i own one)
I have a Nikon HD camera
and a couple HD Mics

heres what i have so far

Dude, those are pretty good! Consider posting screens of your 3D models in this post though: http://automationgame.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=188. That's the show-off thread :D

Cheers!

Re: Will Automation be Moddable

The rigging is used to for all the "handles" for pulling and shaping parts of the car - if you don't get them right it looks really messy when you try to edit the car in game

Err... Try telling the Forza Motorsport guys that - all the sounds from there come from cars on dynos.

You have to avoid recording the dyno noise, but its easier than avoiding road noise, and on the road you can't keep the car at constant revs at full throttle

Engines sound a lot different under load than off load, so its pretty much impossible to get a proper sound without a dyno.

Or you could find the car put it in neutral get a clip at idle hold gas at 2000 RPM 4000 RPM 6000 RPM and so on

Re: Will Automation be Moddable

No, that's what I'm saying though, most cars, paticularly performance cars sound a lot different when under full throttle than just holding it at those revs in neutral - for example my modifed MX5 makes a deep angry sounding induction roar under high throttle that it doesn't make at all under light throttle.

You CAN get sounds with the car in neutral, but they will sound a bit weak and not capture the full sound of the car

Easy way to understand this, go find a nice tunnel, clutch in, blip the throttle, then stick it in a low gear and stamp on the pedal, you'll certainly notice the difference in engine note, and that is in effect the same principle as using a dyno.

Re: Will Automation be Moddable

Just look at Rfactor modding ;) its has easy to understand files for sounds and it shows the on-throttle, off-throttle and iddle sounds at different revs.
And Forza indeed uses alot of real sounds instead of the Granturismo like "computer" sounds imo :P .
But even in that high budget game you can sometimes hear some road noise or other "weird" sounds because it came on the recording.

And post some of your 3d renders in this thread http://automationgame.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=188
