V-8-6-4

Would it be possible for players to make full size V8s and then cut off certain cylinders so as to have better gas mileage much like Cadillac did in the early '80s (and failed) or like Chrysler does today with the 300c. I think I read somewhere that GM still makes some engines like this (maybe?).

I think this variable displacement would be fun to get a lot of power out of an engine with the ability to change into a more fuel efficient car while cruising.

The hemi in the chrsler 300 does this AFAIK. Amung a few other engines. Me personly - id like to beable to build a V4 engine, ford/saab and i think skoa did this.

FYI, Saab used Ford V4 engine, from Taunus 15M to be exact.

The SAAB v-4 was always built by Ford. IIRC.

I don't see why there won't eventually be all types of v-configuration engines, from v4's to v16's. Its just the massive mechanical differences that need to be accounted for.

the reason more companies dont use the smart cylinder shutdown technique is because it doesnt work, there have been tests done that show vibration and harshness of the engine goes up drastically when cylinders are shut off in the name of fuel economy.

volkswagen's latest 1.4 unit can turn off its middle cylinders and still run smooth as silk. in fact the engine becomes very quiet and won't even know it's running

Yup, cylinder deactivation will turn up one day. Probably after the main game is done though.

The full version will be released on Steam in 4-8 months, hopefully on the earlier side. But we refrain from giving predictions as they are very often inaccurate, be it on the good side, or the bad.

Errrr, no? The steam release isn't the full version by any stretch of the imagination, nor is the full version 4 - 8 months away. I'd say a decent version of the tycoon game side of things might be 8 months away, if that's what you mean though.
