Game at Launch, What is in? What is Out? - Updated 08/2014

its not just compression (altough the current range ends WAY too low for that. modern diesels use 16-18:1, older, mostly non direct injecting, naturally aspirated ones went up well into the 2x:1);
diesels dont like revs the same way. the most u'll see is 4.6-5k, with the peak power @ 3.75-4.2k.
sparkplugs? none there; but a heating-plug for cold weather (direct injecting ones) or all starts (rest).
also the make up of the exhaust gasses is different.
Excellent! Now we can attack in ALL directions.

Diesel engines are timed through the fuel pump which runs at half the speed of the crankshaft much like the camshaft.
Then there's different pump. Inline, Rotary etc. plus the later model unit injectors or even common-rail these days.
It be cool if it was integrated into the game but a fair bit of work involved.
Oh and @dread_darven i used to live not far from you once upon a time in Ruinen.
Edit: Just remembered as well the piston designs are different which relate again in conjuction with
the different injectors which can also vary and the type of cylinder head if it has a pre combustion chamber or if it
is direct injection.

With non direct injection i meant that the injector doesn't spray the fuel into the combustion chamber on top of the piston
but into a pre-combustion chamber which is cast/machined into the cylinderhead. I don't think this technique is still
used in modern diesel engines as they are all common-rail etc. But it certainly did in the past.

well im 25 now, and the first DI diesel in my family was my fathers golf mk III from 96; the two before that (and which i remember) were pre combustion ones.

can you chose the size of the engine ie. a 3.2litre v8 or 8 litre v10
and finally can you make subsidery companies like how vw has Audi and Toyota own lexus? and can you make a company with a difrent company like McLaren-Mercedes ford-lotus and Jensen-healey ? so like you plan to build a car but dont have the tech or funds to make it competitive in the market you could link with a company in the same way lotus did with ford to make the ford-lotus cortina.

you completely design the engine however you want. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdwZmwAMFNk
and im not sure about the subsidiaries.
