Longitudinal FWD?

I was wondering if a FWD option could/will be made available for a Longitudinal-mounted engine. While it is a very uncommon configuration, it's not unheard of. The most notable example of a semi-modern design like this would be the Chrysler LH platform. Of course this is mainly because I want to kinda recreate my car in the game at some point, but I figured it's worth asking!

Re: Longitudinal FWD?

I'm a big Mopar guy myself and I was thinking about longitudinal FWD earlier, though I must say my inspiration was Audi. Plenty of cars have featured longi-FWD so it would be a nice addition, especially with the coming V6s.

Re: Longitudinal FWD?

I think they said once that they would do it at some point, especially since the art assets would be quite simple to do.

Re: Longitudinal FWD?

All SAAB 99s and 900s had this setup, too, and they sold lots of those! =)

Glad to hear they'll go in eventually.

I imagine they're waiting for the rear engine to be done. Since a rear engine longitudinal transaxle can be flipped 180 degrees for a front engine layout.

Re: Longitudinal FWD?

The gearbox is already in the game, Steam version that is, the Mid Longitudinal engine uses the same type of gearbox as a Front Longitudinal would use.
Porsche Cayman/Boxter has mid engines and they use the gearbox from an Audi front wheel drive car.

Re: Longitudinal FWD?

It would be even simpler than that. AFAIK they will just take the Longitudinal 4WD drive train, use the rear end platform bits from transaxle FWD and remove the rear driveshaft from the transmission.

Using the transmission from mid longitudinal might be problematic due to how much space it takes. You would end up being limited to very short engines.

Re: Longitudinal FWD?

They redesigned it for the Steam release.

Longitudinal 4WD drive train is not the Audi/Subaru design. It is the BMW/Ford Cossie design.
A transferbox behind/to the side of the gearbox, then a driveshaft parallell to the gearbox/crankshaft. With the front diff to the side of the engineblock.
