Paint model / shader

Firstly: This game is so much fun, it has to be said :)

My main complain is a pretty minor one: the paint modelling on cars is really basic and frankly pretty crap. It's just a flat colour and specular highlights; it uglies up every car something terrible unless you just set the slider close to zero where it takes off the specular and starts looking like matte. Emulating metallic paint would be a massive improvement to the asthetics. There are a variety of things which could be implemented, gloss maps, fresnel, environment mapping, etc... any and all of them would provide an improvement and shouldn't be a lot of work (in theory anyway, I don't know anything about the graphics engine being used).

If the developers don't want to do the work maybe they could expose the shaders and allow the community to create their own? Again I don't know how practical this would be in the engine being used.

From looking at the pictures Andrew (Daffyflyer) posted on automation's facebook page, the game will look much nicer once the transfer to UE4 is completed.

Once we go UE4 we'll be doing all kinds of sexy paint :)

Oh neat! I had no idea you guys were moving over to UE4, that sounds like a lot of work but the quality should really improve.

Looks awesome!!

It has most likely been asked, but what about race strips, vinyl? All that jazz? Can't have an old muscle car without it :D
