More fixture reshaping options

I was wondering: how hard would it be to make more distortion options for fixtures? For example, could the game include a skew or shear mapping effect? This kind of thing would mean a more complicated interface, but it would let people use the same meshes to create a lot more possible effects, and from a mathematical perspective it would still represent a simple 2-D linear transformation matrix.
