More customization to families on Car Designer!

Hey!

I was modelling my car here, and noticed that, while a given base model has a hatchback and sedan version, I couldn't "port" all the fixtures I've already placed on one model to another (which seems to be the same "model")
I'd understand if we lost the tailights and rear fixtures, but why do we have to start from the scratch on the front and sides? They're basically the same thing. Even if it's stretched and modified, couldn't the same faces be used in both models?

Also, I couldn't add fixtures or stuff to "more expensive" version of the same car. I made a basic, inexpensive version of it, then I wanted to make a sport version of the very same car, add some spoilers, lips, fog lights etc, and I noticed it was blocked! I thought about creating another car with the very same name, but I'd need to port all the fixtures from the "basic" model, so it would be convincing, and gave up on the idea

And last, but not least, why not a list with the placed fixtures, so you can click and select it? I like to place one fixture on top of another, to make a composition and look good, but sometimes I place it incorrectly, and have to move everything out of place so I can select a single fixture. It's not very cool, if we had a list of fixtures that we've already placed and could select one individually, would make it easier.

Those are all good ideas, and are in fact pretty much what is planned in future :)

Yes, I found that not adding fixtures to new car trims was very annoying. I hope there's a way you can solve that.

Engines as well have a similar problem, where when making a new variant you can't choose the options.

Re: More customization to families on Car Designer!

Definitely my case. After the Steam release i started redoing all the old models and in my first family i have an entry level, stock and a race.

I really wanted to make the entry a FWD while the other 2 RWD but it wasn't possible so i had to move to a "all trims are RWD" plan. But my entry level doesn't go any ware fast so i didn't put a spoiler on it but i NEED A WING on my race, yet i can not put one...... So please, please, can you make so that the spoilers, lips, vents and grills are unlocked.

PS. i was going to make a thread about this, but GTMoraes explained it better.

That's intentional, as a different varient is just basically "the same engine" but maybe with a different cam, a different fuel system and a slightly longer stroke or something, maybe a turbo version.

if you want anything that's actually different, that'd be a new engine entirely

An other problem for me is that families are year locked, so if I make a 6-cyl SUV in 2008 an then add a V8 in 2009, I can't, same problem with engine families.

Side question: where do I report bugs ?

Good to hear that! I'm looking forward to that feature, hope this future isn't very far!
The sandbox is pretty neat and you can have some serious fun making cars that goes nowhere lol
