UI space.. few ideas..

Lately it's been under a lot of discussion, there is not enough space for this or that..

And it just came to me, why not make it similar to audio synth app, Ableton in this case (pic in attachment)

Idea is simple, when you run out space in the instrument rack, it will start stacking to a point when you just click and drag, so you can add as much instruments as you like.

Please discuss

P.S.

why not make sliders rotary? takes up a lot less space and looks cool

Re: UI space.. few ideas..

I think the current UI is fairly easy and understandle. It already is a big thing and the game is complicated enough. Having more room for more stuff, probably ends up in adding more stuff to the game, cluttering the UI with meters and gauges like in your example picture.

Now be honest to yourself, don't you think is a bit TOO much for a game in overall? We are talking about a GAME here, not a professional audio software tool!

Although I support the idea of an easy to understand UI, a modular UI system could actually be pretty cool, so that you can pick the sliders you want to change and leave out the sliders you don't want to edit. Might be hard to implement though.

Re: UI space.. few ideas..

they might as well all be in there, just dragable along, which would allow a lot of breathable space for things to come..

if hybrids etc. ever come, they will need a lot more UI space, i strongly believe that this is one idea worth considering

Eeeee, suspect this would actually be quite horribly hard to do in a way that is consistently understandable and works well, and UI space isn't the only reason for not over complicating design systems.

You have not seen what I do to the instruments of my planes in X-Plane, you would think your flying some space shuttle with all the gauges and displays, I dont mind UI clutter but I am an "info freak". So either way I dont mind what is chosen, when they put up the diagnostic display I was ecstatic, so much info :) cant wait for the update to come out! :D
