Fixture Axis Snap

Would it be possible to have an option when placing a fixture to have it snap to the x/y axis of another fixture? Aligning parts next to each other (for knockoff Maserati vents, or aligned door handles) would be much easier without having to carefully translate with the mouse.

Re: Fixture Axis Snap

A used method for this in designers programs like Illustrator or Photoshop, is holding Shift. Maybe Automation can do something like that, holding Shift + dragging mouse makes it move on the horizontal or vertical axis in a snapped way?

Id love to see a way to quickly copy fixtures too, so you have two of the exact same sized ones easily accessible. Very useful for making LED strips, side vents, etc. Maybe by right clicking and dragging the fixture or double click and hold?

Re: Fixture Axis Snap

I'd like to see the fixture you're currently using stay selected once you place it, so that once you've adjusted it just right and click to stamp you still have a copy on your cursor.

Re: Fixture Axis Snap

What I'd like to have is an addition to the symmetry button on the exhausts :
- left only
- right only
- both
- and an added center option
This, added to vents, lips and grilles, and maybe wings, would allow much better customization (displaced licence plates as seen on some japanese imports like FD3S) with minimal efforts, if there isn't any constraint behinf it.

Also, what would be awesome is an option to morph the fixtures, like in image editors. For example, turn a rectangular shape into a parallelogram, or a trapezium.
As I think the 3D shapes are a bunch of coordinates, this may be possible, and that would add a great lot to the game.

EDIT : Also, I'd like to see the proportions for the US and EURO licence plates, so we can properly size its spot. Maybe as two new fixtures ? This could be a blank plate with the Automation logo on it.

EDIT 2 : Why is there a 2 wings + 2 lips limit in the new Beta ? I suppose it's to avoid cheaters, but it would be better to have at least 4 lips (trunk, roof and bumpers). Maybe disable the limit visually but keep the two lips limit in the calculations ?

2 Lips and 2 Wings is the most sensible limit. While your suggestion of only having two of each affect the calculations may seem like a solution, it would be very confusing because how would the player know which ones are active and which ones are not? Also, that would mean there is no direct consequence anymore, broken at an arbitrary point. So yeah, considering you can do most things with 2+2, this is the best solution in our opinion.

Re: Fixture Axis Snap

I don't know how it affects aero (width ? overall size ?), but I see many cases where this isn't enough. Like said before, you could use three lips with one on each bumper, plus a lip+wing combo on the roof/trunk.
Well then, could we change the 2 Lips and 2 Wings into 4 Lips/Wings ? That would solve most cases.

Re: Fixture Axis Snap

Kev, find me atleast 10 different PRODUCTION cars which require you to add more than 2 lips or 2 wings? I dont know them, so do you? I think the developers made a good choice in limiting them, because it was more a cheat than an actually 'cool' usage.

Re: Fixture Axis Snap

Well, any car with a lip spoiler in place of a wing could potentially require more than 2 lips. Since lips have less downforce potential than wings, perhaps a solution, where 2 lips + 2 aerodynamic fixtures of any kind(either wings or lips) are allowed, would add some more styling freedom without creating a loophole in the mechanics.

Re: Fixture Axis Snap

Or what about a standard drag for lips/wings no matter their inclinations, would be more realistic too. The reason why 20 wings were started to being used was because there was an "ideal inclination" for the most downforce with the least drag. If each aero part adds a standard drag, or weight, the benefit from using this technique easily becomes nullified, or at least limited.

And there we come to my "4 aero fixtures limit" idea.
